Atry Smoked Basmati Rice, 2-Pound

I bought this just on a whim, and because the price was right. It is packaged well in a reclosable bag you can zip-seal to keep it fresh for the next time. If you are a rice fan (like everyone at our house is), then you want to add this one to your rice collection. It cooked up very easily, made the house smell great while cooking, and tasted great too. The rice cooks up beautifully - not sticky or lumpy. The grains are all separate and easy to eat. It reminded me of wild rice a little bit. We eat a lot of brown rice, and that tends to be a little stickier, so the texture of this rice was very nice. The smokiness is apparent more in the aftertaste. If I had to come close, I would say that I would think this might have been cooked on an outdoor grill while someone was smoking meat on the other side. It is not overwhelming, but we really liked the smoky taste. Other than the smokiness, there is no other flavor in this rice, so I would suggest cooking it in the stock of your choice, like chicken stock or beef stock. We ended up adding just a little bit of soy sauce to ours to boost the flavor a bit, but we were having shrimp with it and it seemed to fit. All in all, it was worth getting, and I would buy it again. The manufacturer does a great job with this one.

I had never tried smokey rice before. I'm so glad I did, and I've been gifting these packages ever since, even giving one to the Chef at our fine dining yacht club, to which I belong. Having done so, I've gotten him hooked on this rice, and he uses it in some of his more complicated Southern dishes...like Pork Cheeks with braised collards and smokey-bacon rice. Trust me, you'll be hooked, too! I should say...When you first open the package to smell it, the smoke is intense. Don't worry, cooking removes a lot of the heavy smoke smell and leaves a light, delightfully scented woodsmoke finish to the rice.

Wow. This rice has an excellent smoky flavor without overpowering other elements of meal. Large fluffy rice. This is good!

This rice is deliciously smokey and I highly recommend it to accompany Indian dishes, roast meats, game vegetables and poultry.
