Yes, all four sides are beautiful squares of mother of pearl. Bottom has a sliding panel to insert box of tissues. It's heavy. Very nice quality and so pretty.

Does this have some silver coloring in it, as well?

When the light hits it, it is quite iridescent, and the silver-like color glows. I have 2 of these, and they are not exactly alike. The gold-like color is quite obvious at times, then the light changes, and the silver-like color shines. It is a very beautiful mother-of-pearl piece.

Can you see ANY of the tissue box once it’s placed inside either the square or rectangular version?

You can see the tissue box ever so slightly. It’s hardly noticeable. I have had mine for over a year and have enjoyed it! It is well made and very pretty.

Is it for bathroom only? Or can it go on a coffee table?

I have mine on a coffee table, next to a lamp with the same design.
