Are these cases sturdier and thicker than the ones that DVDs come in in the stores?

Yes, they are. If you're talking about the flimsy thin ones with the holes thru them that you can flex, that a lot of dvds seem to come with these days. These are sturdy, no holes. Think cases from 10+ years ago.... they're like that.

If I try and twist the case, will it flex back and forth? Can the case support weight? Is it sturdier, like cases from ten years ago?

To me they seem to be like the current quality you get with new DVDs bought today. As for twisting or being sturdy, I really can't answer that. I am just always super careful with them and have never had that tested. I guess I could say they are sturdy enough to fit down tightly in a case with others and hold up pretty well, because I have stuffed as many into a plastic DVD case that I can for storage and have the cases stacked on top of each other. Haven't had any problems over the years.

Does the center push button actually release the disc so it pops up, or you you have to practically force the disc out? TIA

push button on center does actually release disc when you press it, so it eventually pops out disc
