I live in Sw Florida and have a 24 ft cargo trailer that i converted the front half into an RV for a business i started and needed a portable a/c to make it livable when in use. I first went with the Shinco 10k BTU portable a/c because of the price, i bought here on Amazon for only $230 lol, i got it, cut out a circular hole out of the floor and used a marine "porthole" with a cap that unscrews to vent the exhaust pipe throught the floor, and the cap screws back on when not in use. The machine was nice and quiet when running and blew cold air out but simply could NOT cool that little space (12x8 area), even with it being an insulated cargo trailer that i paid extra for. I was extremely disappointed and gave it a few days running and even at night it would barely be comfotable in there. I boxed it back up in disgust and sent it back! I started researching portable a/c's and quickly dicovered that it couldnt cool because of it's poor design (you get what you pay for!), it used the interior air for the heat exchange and dumped out enough hot air underneath the trailer to rival a clothes dryer which meant every bit of air that was sucked out and exhausted from the interior meant the interior needed to "make up" that amount of air on drawing in new hot moist air from the exterior through the cracks, it shot itself in the foot, extremely POOR DESIGN! On top of this, the exhaust hose created an enormous amount of heat itself, what a nightmare! This Midea unit uses a "dual hose design" 2 in 1 and it takes the outside air for the heat exchange then blows it back out through the same hose (there's actually 2 hoses inside the main hose, 1 for intake, 1 for exhaust) and no heat from the exhaust hose. This Midea unit with the dual hose design is amazing, it instantly starts cooling and within 15 min started up at MID DAY its already comfortable, in an hour its as cool as your home a/c in the 70's and living in South Florida is brutal in August, it's been 98 degrees here with near 100% humidity. This unit EASILY makes cool air to spare, i highly recommend it!

14000 btu unit without heating. It does cool, haven’t tested in a very hot environment yet, but it seems to put out much more cold air than my previous 6000 btu window unit. Reason for 1 star review: condensate There seems to be a big discrepancy in people’s experience with condensate. The instructions leave a lot of info out and aren’t super clear about how things “should” work. We don’t have heat mode so there is no middle drain and no pump for condensate (which is only for heat mode either way). Instructions state the top continuous drain is for dry mode, and the middle for heat mode, but doesn’t specifically say anything about cooling. Well some people have to drain the bottom regularly when cooling, others don’t. Mine can’t run in cool mode for more than a couple hours without filling up and erroring, trying to use the top continuous hose doesn’t alleviate the issue. Overall humidity could be the problem, but our current humidity isn’t that high and other people’s experience is similar, I read a comment from one person who has two units, one fills up, the other doesn’t… Could be a problem with the unit? I’ve checked things out and don’t see how it could possibly do anything differently, I’ve read about other units that have a spinning wheel that flings collected water at the condenser coils (which get hot) to evaporate it and send it out the exhaust. I didn’t see that at all, but it does look like when the top collection trays fill up (if you aren’t continuously draining) the “overflow” seems to drip over the hot coils. It simply doesn’t work if there is too much condensate and anything that gets to the bottom has nowhere to go. The top collection tray will always have some water that should be drained out of the top prior to storage but they don’t really state that and there is no way to connect a hose without just draining water when you open the drain to attach a hose, so it always spills. The bottom drain is too low to do almost anything other than draining into a floor drain, unless you raise the unit up off the floor and it is 75lbs so not an ideal situation. FYI I’m filling up a gallon bucket every couple of hours. I guess one last thing, even if you continuously drain out the top, there is still condensate that will get to the bottom that will need to be drained, not sure how fast, when I had both hoses connected barely anything came out the top, but then I realized the unit wasn’t very level.

I wish I had bought this unit seasons before I did. It is superior to a one hose unit in every way possible. 1. It doesn't create an air pressure vacuum in the room. I can shut the door with ease. I don't feel air being sucked in through every crack, crevice and window. 2. The hoses are housed in a covering that doesn't get hot. 3. The ease and speed with which it is able to cool the room is incredible. 4. Using the app to control it is suuuper easy and much better than looking around for a remote (though it does come with one). 5. The vent / swing is designed in a way that it puts out way more air than past units I've had. 6. The parts used to create the window covering around the two hoses is all superior to past units I've had. It's a strong metal instead of plastic and I feel that helps a lot with preventing air leakage. I love how it slowly ramps up from start to fully blasting instead of abruptly slamming on. There is a slight buzzing sound at times- but I've gotten used to it and to be honest if that's the only con for all of the pros I'm getting...I'm okay with that. I overheat VERY easily and I've never had my bedroom be this cool without having to seal it up like a biodome...and even then the units I had were working 24/7 to keep it cool whereas the Midea dual hose seems to be able to do it fairly quickly and then turn off. Also my electric bill is still low / reasonable. So yes, the hype about a dual hose is real. They are superior in every way and this unit in particular is obviously well designed and made with high quality materials. I spent a lot of time researching portable AC's and sat on the fence for too long over whether to go with a dual hose. I had probably been using the unit for less than ten minutes before I knew I had made the right decision to invest in this unit.

I received my unit from Amazon on 7/15 and have run it for the last couple of days. As is seemingly usual for portable AC units, the box came in a somewhat-distressed state (one corner completely bashed in) but did not seem to impact the functionality of the unit, so I'll consider myself fortunate. Impressions thus far: - Unit cools down my 450sq ft south-facing room without a problem. This room has insulation issues so I won't bother quoting cooldown times. - Runs fairly quiet - I guess as an inverter system the compressor sound isn't prominent but it's still there. On low speeds it comes across as slight "chirping" noises - not sure if that's the inverter board power or the compressor itself but it isn't offensive. On hotter days the condenser fan will occasionally go full beans and causes the unit to make even more noises but that's momentary and I'm not bothered by it. - At higher speeds, I can point the vents upward toward my vaulted ceiling and can feel air come down along walls in different parts of the room - pretty neat. - The oblong dual hose-in-hose design is interesting. I initially thought I could only point the AC unit "straight into the room" with the AC unit directly below the vent hole on my window but turns out if you extend out the hose long enough, say 4ft, there is some play in the hose to bend it horizontally such that the AC unit can be turned somewhat to a more desirable location of the room. This, of course, comes at the expense of having the unit placed further into the room it's what I prefer anyway. The hose is quite stiff though so side-to-side action is a bit difficult. - I love the Auto Fan mode - when it gets closer to my cooling set-point it'll slowly ramp down the fans as well as the compressor speeds. - Unit does 2.4Ghz WiFi and can be controlled via Midea's app. App generally works ok for basic functions (for what I briefly tested) but I haven't tried the Alexa integration. - Remote works well - I found you don't have to point it directly to the unit: point up, down, off to the side away from the unit, whatever - it seems the AC unit receives remote commands no matter what. Almost seems it's not IR-based. What I don't like or improvements: - Glossy black. With the exception of the faceplate (matte black) the whole unit is gloss black. After two days, the unit picks up fingerprints, lots dust, and is easily scratched by an accidental scrape of the fingernail and is easily seen during the daytime. Ironically, the color choice for the remote and power cord? White. - Though the louvers have a decent up-down range of blowing air, there are no adjustments for side-to-side so the only option is to point the whole unit toward the part of the room you need the direct air flow. - A bit on the pricey side. I guess if you want the inverter system, you'll have to pay more. In all, decent unit. Will get to play with it through summer but so far I like the unit.

We live in a Craftsman style house built in 1900 and heated by a boiler with cast iron radiators. As such there are no conduits for central air conditioning. To cool the rooms we spend the most time in we have two portable air conditioners. We had an 8,000 BTU unit in the downstairs living room that just was not doing the job. Midea is unique with their design because the machine pulls air from the outside and then exhausts back outside. This makes the room air pressure even. The 8,000 BTU unit we had pulled the air from inside the house and then exhausted to the outside. This created negative air pressure in the house. Because of the negative air pressure the air conditioner pulled replacement air from the fireplace chimney, making the room smell like burnt wood. Our new 14,000 BTU Midea unit cools the room much better and we no longer have the burnt wood smell in the room.

Unit was absolutely great, got me through one of the hottest summers in 2023. But.... About a month after the warranty was up, I started getting P1 error codes every 6 hours. P1 error code means the drip tray is full with water. Okay, fine, I just need to empty it more often. Then, it started every hour. That isn't great - it has a top hole to empty overflow, but to fully empty, you need the bottom plug; it's is about half an inch from the ground. Meaning it can't gravity feed into a bucket unless you put it on a table/shelf. So I bought a cheap'ish end table to perch this thing on and tried to gravity feed it into a bucket. That worked. Kinda. During the following week, it didn't quite push air like it used to. About a week later, another error code came up. When I looked it up, I found a myriad of different reasons that could point to the problem - dirty filter, damaged coils, leaking coolant, etc. The first step was to remove the air filter (which I have cleaned bi-monthly). I did and found ice on the upper air intake. The Midea support said this happens when the air filter is dirty and won't allow air-flow (it wasn't), the coils are damaged (I don't think so? This thing has been sitting there for a year and I don't touch it), the drip tray is full (covered previously), or there is a coolant leak (which is unfixable). It feels like the last one.

Better than I expected. I’m using it for a living room of about 300 sq ft. When I setup it up, the temperature in the living room was 94 degrees Fahrenheit. The outside temperature was 92. Three hours later the living room temperature is 80. I suspect it will drop lower. I put the unit in the balcony door. Just followed the casement instructions and added corrugated cardboard, which is an insulator, to fill in the door space. That door gets direct sunlight from about 1pm to dusk. So it really gets hot at those hours. The sliding door is 6’ x 7’. Thats a lot of sunlight and glass The only downside side is the plastic clamps. They take some work to get them to hold. Will eventually use some insulation tape. To hold the exhaust fixture in place. That’s a small price to pay for a fabulous unit. Because the unit was not designed for a balcony door, I’m using my 3D printer to make clamps and door guides for a better fit. Now that the room is cooling off, the fan speed has dropped and it is much quieter than I expected. I can’t say enough about this. Granted, it’s only the first day. I will update it again. So far, it’s handling Savannah, Georgia’s debilitating summer heat and humidity. Right now, my central air has succumbed to Savannah’s heat, and it may be weeks before it’s rehabilitated. This has been an absolute life saver. I’m now contemplating getting a second unit for the bedroom. The unit there, out of respect I will not mention the name, is not up to the task. When the central AC is restored, I will keep these and move them to my workshop in the garage.

If anyone is buying this Midea Duo large portable AC please note the covers of hose outlets are completely open and all types of bugs and critters can get inside. So unless you have a fitted screen on the window you will have to rig something up. I called Midea support but they were not so helpful suggesting rectangular air vent filters which would not work. My solution was to cut up an old portable sliding window screen and use the mesh which is flexible enough to clamp on outside of vent hose. I have attached photos of before and after. Seems to be doing its job. The window attachment clips on the hose are not that tight and also there are a few gaps around edges of clips and on one corner of hose so some duct tape to secure it is also advisable. The provided insulation tape and window foam are not the best quality and the window foam is much too thin so be prepared to buy some better alternatives. The good news is it seems to be cooling well. It was 90 deg yesterday and I set the AC to 72 and it is set up by open door and made 2 rooms comfortable within an hour. No issues with any leaking on dry setting. For the cost I think quality control could be a bit better and better grade materials provided in box. Also be aware box has to be upright and watch the bottom corners for impact as not so much padding at bottom of box and wheels can get damaged easily. Initially pleased with the purchase in 2023. I would advise taking Amazons additional warranty though Asurian for peace of mind for 3 or 4 years as only 1 year provided by Midea. Update July 2025…..compressor no longer comes on and have only used for 2 seasons July August September so about 6 months total usage and cleaned and covered when stored. Today after setting up for summer compressor would not come on and tried all troubleshooting and calling Midea but no solution and as I paid over $600 for this not a very reliable product. Luckily I purchased the Amazon Assurion extended warranty and I was fully refunded within 15 minutes of calling. Downgrade my review and would advise to look elsewhere

The very first thing I noticed about the Midea Duo 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner is how quiet it is. It's the quietest air conditioner I've every owned. The only time you'll hear the Midea Duo's compressor/inverter is when it's starting up. When the inverter/compressor starts up, it emits a high-pitched whine, which lasts for about a second. Subsequent to the starting up, the only sound you'll hear is the movement of the air that's being blown out by the fan. The Midea Duo 14,000 BTU in my living room is only 2 meters away from my TV and it doesn't interfere with my TV viewing. The Midea Duo 14,000 BTU is so quiet, I bought a 2nd one that I've placed in my bedroom. The Midea Duo 14,000 BTU is the first dual hose portable air conditioner I've owned. The dual hose design is noticeable superior to single hose portable air conditioner when it comes to keeping an area cool. The dual hose design draws in air from the outside, just like a window air conditioner. By bringing in air from the outside, the air conditioner is able to create a pocket of high pressure cold air. If you walk into a closed area that's cooled by a dual hose air conditioner, rather than a single hose air conditioner, you'll notice a dramatic drop in temperature. Most air conditioners use compressors that cycle on and off. Rather than cycling on and off, which creates variations in your room temperature, the inverter used by the Midea Duo speeds up, or slow down, to keep your room at the temperature that you've selected. The screen on the remote is backlit, which you'll greatly if you need to use it in low-light conditions. Once you set the room temperature that you want, you can sit back and let the Midea Duo do its job. I also have to commend Midea Customer Service. Two of the window slides, included with the first Midea Duo I purchased, had been damaged in transit. Replacements were shipped to me within a week.

I bought this item after a personal recommendation from a friend who has the same unit and raved about it. I did my own research and felt so overwhelmed by all the options. I stuck with this one and I am glad I did. There are pros and cons with every unit. If you are looking for that perfect unit that is silent you wont find it. CONS: -it is loud on the high setting. If you are in the same room you can really hear it working but it can act like white noise if you let it. -There is no swivel available for the hose so it must be flush to the window that you are venting through. This makes it hard to get good coverage when it is pointing away from where you need it to be. I managed to get it angled about 8 inches and made sure there was no pull on the hose and that has helped. But it sure would be nice if these engineers could come up with a system that could be swivelled somewhat. But to be fair they are all like that. -The duo hose is both a plus and minus. The minus is that it is big, very big. Not the prettiest looking thing hanging out the window but it is effective. -effectively does open spaces very well so my living and dinning area and kitchen are well cooled but it can't go through walls so bathroom and bedroom are still a little warm, but cooler than without it. Perhaps if I leave it running 24/7 for a week or so it will eventually cool those spaces better too. -it says portable but it is big. It does wheel well but it is clunky and if you move it you need another widow insert. But this is common to all as well. -a lot of buttons to figure out to program it and instructions are very poor so a lot of trial and error. -Thermostat is not very accurate so running on auto it just never shuts off. I have to play around with the remote, which is the thermostat to try to find the perfect place so it gets an accurate reading . -the plastic clips that hold the hose in place in the window are very stiff, hard plastic and hard to release. They look like they will break easily if you use to much pressure but it can be a challenge to get the hose off. Just use patience and dont pull too hard. -it is a big machine so if you are looking for something with a small footprint this is not the unit for you. But I honestly dont know how it compares to other brands. Pros: - very powerful machine that cools quickly. -fairly quiet on medium fan speed and silky quiet on low fan speed. Nite mode is even more quiet. -wifi was easy to set up on my iPhone with their app. works well on wifi so I can program from anywhere. But the wifi and remote dont always say the same thing which is confusing but not a problem. -Remote works well, except thermostat is always a high reading. -I hired a company to custom make an acrylic widow insert and they did a fabulous job so it is professionally installed in the window. But the downside is that its not easily ported to another window unless I want to pay to have a second one done. -casters on wheels are very good, durable and rolls easily, even on carpet. -cools very fast. Had my windows opened during the day when I was out and came into a very hot apartment. Closed all the windows and set it on high at about 17C. The place was cooled down in less than 20 minutes. I usually start the day and crank it up high as I get the morning sun. After about 30 minutes on high I can set it on medium the rest of the day and in the evening I set it down to low. Bedtime I use nite mode. So far this has worked at keeping a constant temperature. The bedroom seems to be cooling each day so I am hoping that running it constantly 24/7 I should have that room cooled nicely in about a week. It is cooler now but not as much as I would like it to be and I dont want to be moving it from room to room. -still learning what settings are best and when and for how long so a lot of trial and error but this is my first portable air con so it is a learning curve. -had it running for about a week and no water to drain. Havent used the dehumidifier yet so I dont know how often one will have to drain when one uses that. But on air con mode it doesn't collect a lot of water. -Registration was easy. You also get a coupon for an additional 3 month warranty if you scan the bar code when registering so a nice add. -Overall very satisfied and I guess I should be at this price point. It is an expensive machine. -The duo hose is nice. Yes big, but it works well to prevent the hose from getting warm and in recirculating the air. Duo hoses are better at keeping external smoke out, so I have been told. Today was the first day I did not smell smoke from the forest fires so I guess I was told right. Was also told there is no air con that will totally prevent this but it was a big feature for me. I happy with the job it is doing. Havent had my first electric bill yet so I will see what this is costing in another few weeks. If it is outrageous I will add additional comments. But the model is on BC Hydro's list of rebate models. I havent applied yet but they are offering a $50 rebate for select makes and models. UPDATED AUG 29: As feared the plastic clips that hold the hose in place have begun to break. They are so stiff. Why can't they use rubber instead of hard plastic. The hose is very hard to detach from the window insert because of this. One clip has now broken so waiting for the other three to break. No idea how to go about replacing these things. A friend told me to use strips of duct tape on the broken one to hold it in place so I will try that. But there has got to be a better way to manufacture this thing so that it is easier to detach and less likely to break. Gotta go check for replacement parts now I guess. I'll write to manufacture re warranty and let you know what they say. UPDATE 2: Regarding the app. As others have said it does not work on 5G so you need to be able to use 4G or 3G. Luckily I can set my phone to 4G. The app works very well with an iPhone. easy to install and set up. I no longer use the remote control as I find the app easier. As well, you can set the fan speed to more than just hi, middle or low. You can actually set it exactly, like to 33% or 21% etc. It also works well when I am out and want to turn unit on or off before I get home. On sleep mode you have more control options as well. I did not buy because of the app but I am glad I have it. I also fine the thermostat is more accurate on the app and it provides both outside and inside temperatures. Update 3: Manufacture is shipping a replacement part due to the broken clip. Still dont know how it will hold up over time. But the customer service response has been very good. Part is back ordered so it may take a few weeks. I can still clip it in with three good clips I will repair it for next summer as it is almost time to put away for the winter.

This was a great air conditioner for the 15 minutes it ran. That's right, 15 minutes. After spending a few hours jury-rigging a vent setup in my bedroom, I was quite pleased with myself for my hard work. After 10 minutes the AC started making a somewhere unusual, rhythmic thumping noise -- uh-oh -- so I sat down and started google: "Midea Duo loud," "portable AC louder than expected," "AC unit fan loud" -- BANG! BANG! BANG! Holy cow, I nearly fall out of my seat. It was like a mini explosion went off inside the unit, but even with how it jerked about like it was fighting an alien in its chest it kept on running, each jerk getting more violent than the last until I tore the plug out of the wall. It's pretty clear from peering down the hose what happened. The fan blower must have had pre-existing damage, because it is DESTROYED. Blown to smithereens. I can see bits of it all over the place as shattered plastic. The unit must not have any features to detect this sort of damage, because it kept running (and shaking violently) even after the blower had been badly damaged. Here is the first thing you'll learn about Midea's warranty system if you have to make a claim: (1) they have bank hours, Mon-Fri, so if you're setting this up before a long weekend you're out of luck until after the heatwave to put in your ticket. Hope you don't mind calling during your work hours because of their shoddy work! (2) If you happen to find a form to submit a message instead, good luck filing it. The webform was broken and I could not submit the model number clearly marked on the side of the unit, even though I had no problem registering the unit in my name before I tried to make the ticket. About this model itself and ease of installation: I bought this model because it has an impressive hose-in-hose design (making it more efficient than other portable AC units in a similar price range), but this same design makes it much more difficult to install in a non-standard windows (any non-sliding window). To be fair, Midea is very clear in the listing and manual about this unit being for a sliding window, so please keep in mind that from their perspective your use of this unit is not their problem (fair enough). If you are using a canvas window seal kit you will want to avoid the ones with a standard duct size (get one that has a zipper instead) or else you will need to cut a hole to make this AC's non-standard sized hose fit the kit. Again, to be fair, I bet you installation is VERY easy in a sliding window as this AC unit is shipped with a variety of hardware to make it easy to install. About PRICING: at the time I made my order three weeks ago, I paid a little under $800. The current listed price is over $1200 only three weeks later (a $400 increase). I don't know about you, but to me this looks like there is some price gauging going on here as we head into the hotter months. Good to know Midea is a company which engages in this anti-consumer practice.

This air conditioner is one of the best we've had. We bought one to replace our aging ac in the bedroom and it works great. It's so much more quiet than the old one too. It works so well we thought we would try one in our open concept kitchen-living room and it works great there too. It keeps the temperature at 20 - 21°C even when it's 30° outside. So glad we found these.
