In this now-legendary graphic novel series that serves as the inspiration for the hit AMC television series, Jesse Custer was just a small-town preacher in Texas...until his congregation was flattened by powers beyond his control and the preacher became imbued with abilities beyond anyone's understanding. Now possessed by Genesis--the unholy offspring of an angel and demon--Jesse holds Word of God, an ability to command anyone or anything with a mere utterance. And he'll use this power to hold the Lord accountable for the people He has forsaken. From the ashes of a small-town church to the bright lights of New York City to the backwoods of Louisiana, Jesse Custer cuts a righteous path across the soul of America in his quest for the divine--an effort that will be met by every evil that Heaven and Earth can assemble. Joined by his gun-toting girlfriend, Tulip, and the hard-drinking Irish vampire Cassidy, Jesse will stop at nothing to fulfill his quest to find God. The powerhouse creative team of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon bring readers on a violent and riotous journey across the country in this award-winning Vertigo series, beginning with Preacher: The 25th Anniversary Omnibus Vol. 1 ! What is not to love about Preacher? Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon created one of the most influential and generation defining comic books of all time. I was 15 when it came out and I remember how revolutionary it felt at the time. A preacher who effs and jeffs and murders, an Irish vampire, a beautiful bad ass hired killer and a boy with an arse for a face! Plus a God who just decided one day to quick being God! If people ask me about comic books, I often point them to this title as a good place to start, because it isn't at all what they expect and it really does have some of the finest storytelling around. Yeah, I will also have to warn them that it is definitely not PC - it wasn't in the 90s and it certainly isn't now. It exists in its own time and its own world and, even with some of the faults, the storytelling is so incredible, the violence is so extreme and the care that was taken to do something offensive on every page, makes this an absolute blast. This omnibus and volume 2 together contain every single issue of Preacher and its various mini-series. buy it!

Mediocre novel
A huge appealing tome, but full of very pubescent content. I expected a story with a more serious tone, but in my opinion the story and characters are not well developed. I stopped reading after 300 pages, about a third of the book. Vampires, unbelievable cults and childish representation of heavenly forces, it just wasn't for me.

A Bold, Unforgettable Comic Classic
Preacher: The 25th Anniversary Omnibus Vol. 1 is an incredible start to one of the most unique comic series ever published. The story blends dark humor, supernatural horror, action, and heartfelt character moments into something completely original. Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy make for a fantastic trio, and their chemistry keeps the story engaging from beginning to end. The writing is sharp, the dialogue is memorable, and the artwork perfectly captures the gritty tone of the series. While the content is definitely mature and not for everyone, readers who enjoy bold, character-driven stories will find a lot to love here. The omnibus edition itself is excellent, with high-quality printing, a sturdy binding, and oversized pages that make the artwork stand out. Itโs a great way to experience this classic series, whether youโre reading it for the first time or revisiting it years later. Highly recommended for fans of mature comics and unforgettable storytelling.
