The Hobbit: 70th Anniversary Edition by Tolkien, J. R. R. Reprint Edition (2007)

Very good quality, beautifully illustrated hardback anniversary edition of The Hobbit. Delighted with the purchase.

It is an absolute joy to again own a copy of this book, especially as the cover reminds me of the edition I owned many years ago. I feel sure I do not need to promote this particular book, but if by chance you have never read it, you are in for a real treat!

I bought this as an upgrade to an old paperback version I had and I am delighted with it.

Everybody knows the story, so I really won't bother explaining. Instead, I'll focus on this particular edition. This is actually the 75th anniversary edition, not the 70th anniversary ed of the Hobbit as it is advertised on amazon.co.uk. Cover-to-cover description follows. + book jacket reproduces Tolkien's own design for the first edition (the sun and the dragon are red as originally intended), the colors on the jacket are not so saturated. It really gives the feel of color pencil drawing. Very nice, I love it. + Thror's map on the inner side of the cover: background of the map is yellowish (looks like parchment); runes on the left, rune marking the entrance and Smaug's drawing are in red. Love it. + preface by Christopher Tolkien excerpted from the 50th anniversary edition + table of contents, list of illustrations, notes on the text + author's original illustrations included, the colored ones are on harder type of paper + when you read a chapter, left page has "The Hobbit" in the header and <chapter_name> in the header of the right page, the fontsize is normal, not too small + first chapter of The Lord of the Rings is included in smaller font, doesn't really take up that much space at all (11 pages) + map of Wilderland: background color imitates parchment, important names in dark blue Overall I am very pleased with this edition.

Was read this book in Junior school back in the very early 70s, still hasn't lost its magic.

Prompt delivery, but this is the pocket edition and I wanted the equivalent of the full sized edition.

I loved the imagination of this book- the characters and the setting. I gave my copy to my eldest son but it’s now looking worse for wear so I bought a new one!

I don't have any issues with this book. I love everything about it.

Cette édition contient des illustrations réalisées par J.R.R. Tolkien lui-même, la préface de Christopher Tolkien datant de 1987 et une note de Douglas A. Anderson datant de 2001. Le texte présent dans l'ouvrage correspond à la version la plus récente du texte. Le format du livre est vraiment idéal pour la lecture. Une édition premium parfaite pour découvrir le texte

Livre reçu conforme aux indications. Attention (comme indiqué) ce livre n'est pas l’édition de 2007 mais belle et bien un REPRINT (2020) de cette édition. Il correspond bien à l’édition du 70th anniversaire. Contrairement à certains avis je l'ai reçu dans un état impeccable. La taille du texte est tout à fait normal. Je suis complétement satisfait de ce beaux livre. Seul petit bémol, vaut il le prix? Mème si je trouve un peu exagéré personnellement je voulais cette édition.

The description of the book you get is not accurate as I received a 2020 edition and not 2007 as stated on this page. It also came in a tiny box where the book was so tightly fit in it I couldn’t get it out without damaging it and had to cut the box. I was very happy that the book came much earlier than expected and do love the quality of the book!
