He is the most awesome musician ever, but may lack detail in teaching
James Morrison is one of the most awesome musicians in our world today, and possibly the best brass player alive right now and his tips he gives us in this lesson DVD are most valuable only because he is who he is. They seem to lack detail on important items such as embouchure, air pressure and tonging. I found several of the units on Youtube first and then ordered this DVD mostly because he plays so amazingly and I wanted to show support for him. If it is playing in the upper register or getting all the basics correct on your horn that you are after than you would be better off streaming YouTube video of Roy Roman and Charlie Parker... they cover all the basics in their videos and go into great detail.

Dont purchase!
I was curious to know what Morrison had to say about his method but he doesn't truly get into it much. Find a good trumpet player or players in your area and pick their brain. You'll get more from them than this DVD!!!

I love this guy!
I love this guy. He's charming and personable and can play like nobody else. That being said I feel like I wasted my money. He yammers on and on and I kept thinking"Get on with it". Hell I was yelling at the TV. Really, he's such a nice person and such a great horn player but he really doesn't say anything. What he says is ok but the pickings are slim. His explanation of the lips and muscles is dead on (though he doesn't refer to the neck muscles at all. Maybe he hasn't learned about them yet). All the talk about high notes really is pointless. I personally don't care a whit about high notes. If you practice regularly then eventually over time you'll be able to hit high notes. That's a given. I don't like all the screeching and feel that if you want to hit high notes you should buy a dog whistle. There's no talk about expression and lyricism though he does mention emotion. I think his talk about thinking about what you're going to play before you play it is wrong. Absolutely wrong. If you want to be a soloist then it has to be automatic with as little interuption from the intellect as possible. But then he's the pro and I'm writing crap on Amazon. There are many basic dynamics of learning and patterning that are common to sports and to playing music that he doesn't even come close to mentioning but those are secrets that he might not know and since I'm not getting paid I'm not going to share them.Seriously: James I love you but you owe me $15 or whatever it was.

Great DVD
James Morrison is freakishly talented and has a sense of humour to boot. He makes playing trumpet a true joy at whatever level you play.

I resent paying good money for an infomercial
More of a lecture on breathing and visualisation than a tuition dvd. It also has a massive advert for Yamaha disguised as an educational segment. I resent paying good money for an infomercial.

Super
eine wunderbare CD - seeehr viel gesprochenes Wort -- man muss gut Englisch können um da etwas rauszunehmen. Sehr interessantes System
