Cook Korean!: A Comic Book with Recipes [A Cookbook]

My teen daughter and I made a few recipes out of this and it was so much fun as well as super delicious! The fun illustrations and homey casual style won over my teen and I appreciate how straightforward and easy the recipes are. Everything turned out so good we even made some twice! I highly recommend this book.

I have read it thorouh twice now (and when was the last time you did that with a cookbook?) and I have to say that I am totally in love with it. I have a pretty large collection of cookbooks, and I tend to pare them regularly of the ones that don't get used. I recently purged another Korean cookbook which had beautiful photographs and completely inscrutable recipes. I am certain that Cook Korean! will be on my cookbook shelf forever. Robin Ha has demystified a cuisine that I love to eat but, despite being a good and experienced cook of multiple cuisines and styles, have been afraid to try and make at home. I feel, after reading it, not only that I can make the recipes in the book, but that I have a handle on Korean cooking in a general sense. I tested this by looking up some recipes online and yep, they make a lot more sense to me now. Something about the comic book format (and I'm a lover of comics as well as of cuisine) communicates the process of cooking this food to me in a way that a bare recipe never did. Robin's story of her awakening to a love of home cooking and of the traditions that inform Korean cuisine are charming, informative, and really connect with the reader. If you long for the taste of yukgaejang and kimchi jiigang at home, but find these dishes intimidating, BUY THIS BOOK. You will not be sorry. You will make delicious Korean food at home. It will make you happy in your belly.

This is such a fun, unique cookbook I instantly fell in love with it. Not only is it entertaining to read as a comic, the recipes included are delicious and easy to make! It truly makes cooking more fun and the illustrations are incredible. Highly recommend to anyone interested in Korean recipes

Cook Korean! by Robin Ha is a delightful cookbook that de-mystifies Korean cusine for the average (non-Korean) home cook. The book is well-organized and the intro section is just right- not too long, introducing the book's intent and describing ingredients to look for to make authentic Korean recipes. I didn't know if I would like a comic format so much, but her comics and writing style are easy and fun to follow, and I appreciated the little bits of info distributed throughout the book as well. Though there are no photos, the many drawings really help me understand what to do, from cutting ingredients to the right size to how the dish should look at the end. Chapters on street food, cocktails and anju, and Korean fusion dishes take care to acknowledge other delicious influences and features of Korean food and culture. We already had the ingredients for Oisobagi kimchi in our kitchen,and there will definitely be homemade bulgogi and nakji in my near future. I received this review copy from bloggingforbooks in exchange for my honest review, and I can't wait to Cook Korean! I highly recommend this book if you're just getting in to cooking Korean cuisine at home, it's a great, easy to follow guide and fun to read.

The recipes are pretty accurate (I’m Korean) and the book is actually entertaining to read! I saw this book at my nephews house and purchased it myself because I loved the illustrations. The recipes are good and easy to follow. Great gift for Korean foodies!

This book does a great job introducing you to the typical daily korean cuisine. There are many recipes that are presented in a fun, digestable format which invites you to cook along with the author. Would recommend for someone trying to get started learning and trying out korean foods.

Owning a lot of comics and cookbooks, I can safely say Robin Ha's "A comic book with recipes" is the perfect blend of the best of both worlds. Every page is beautifully illustrated with a fun and easy to follow recipe guide for numerous dishes. Not only do you learn how to make a variety of dishes, you get to learn a bit about the unique ingredients, the culture, and the author's experience with cooking. This book is perfect for any comic or cooking enthusiast or for anyone looking how to make Korean food in a fun user friendly way. As an educator, I would definitely recommend it for school age children! Not only would they learn about the food and the culture, the easy to follow illustrations would get any child inspired to cook. I can't wait to try some recipes with my nieces!

I originally got this for my graphic novel loving young daughter to equally help her widen her knowledge of food, yet it’s so good it’s taken pride of place amongst my own Korean cookbooks!! I use and further adapt some of the banchan recipes for our own weekly preparations and the main dishes all have been a delight and well received. The format is playful and achievable for beginners to the cuisine especially in places where some ingredients may be hard to source even online unless you live near a Korean/ inclusive asian supermarket. The creator tells of her own food journey and falling back in love with her own food, each recipe is taught to us by a friendly hanbok wearing character with a focus on encouraging a love, appreciation and engagement with the food and cultural aspects with asides on how and when this may be eaten or how this version differs from traditional ingredients. Well worth the price several times over.

While this cookbook might seem tailored to kids, its actually very useful for all ages. The instructions are easy to follow and well organized. Early on, the author outlines various ingredients you should consider buying ahead of time to have on hand. This is definitely handy information to have. The book is also a good lesson in Korean cooking overall, which makes the book even ore interesting. The pictures, in a cartoon fashion, were a bit busy for my taste, but it was easy to look past that once I got used to them and began cooking. I highly recommend this to everyone.
