The Walking Dead Volume 19: March to War

The latest collection from the walking dead sees Rik and the group dealing with the aftermath of Negus and his brutality and attempting to build an alliance to overcome him and win back their freedom.This story is something of a slow burner but it builds to an exciting conclusion and hints that major events are on the way.The quality and strength of the characters and world continues here and it builds nicely from the shocking events of the last book. We also finally get to see Ezekiel and his cat in action!Another great episode in a brilliant series.

I recently purchased volumes 16 - 19 in one order, and tried my hardest to spread out reading them as long as I could. I was done with all four in a week...volumes 17-19 in one day. I just couldn't help myself.I know a lot of other reviewers state that Kirkman's storylines are repetitive and cyclical, but come on, how much variety can you put into a zombie story without it being too unrealistic? In any realistic (or semi-realistic) story, there's going to be a dose of monotony along with all the action and drama. Human beings are creatures of habit; we tend to float towards the path of least resistance and stay there for a spell, some longer than others. Considering that up to this point in the comics, almost two years has passed since the turn, I honestly believe quite a bit of variety has already been introduced into the story - enough to keep me hanging on and grasping at every panel and page. To each his own opinion.That said, I enjoyed Volume 19, and I'm excited to see how the old group continues to integrate new characters and react to new enemies. In the Walking Dead universe, change is integral to survival, and it is coming soon...

Dieser Band dient meiner Meinung hauptsächlich zum langsamen Spannungsaufbau für den Folgeband, in dem es unweigerlich zum großen Knall, sprich der "Entscheidungsschlacht" kommen wird.Achtung Spoiler ↓↓↓↓↓Die Zombies dienen eigentlich, wie bereits in den letzten beiden Bänden zuvor, nur als Staffage der Endzeitstory.Die wahre Bedrohung geht vom Menschen aus, obwohl diese Exemplare die Bezeichnung "Mensch" nicht verdienen. Und wieder einmal zeigt sich Negan als der völlig durchgeknallte, unberechenbare Psychopath der er ist, was besonders drastisch an der Szene mit dem Wortspiel "to have guts" deutlich wird. Im Unterschied zur Ermordung Glenns wird sich jedoch Mitleid mit dem Opfer in Grenzen halten.Rick gewinnt verloren gegangene Führungsqualitäten zurück, stärkste Charaktere sind jedoch "Jesus" und Michonne. Auch "Ezekiel" gewinnt an Tiefe, nachde mer Michonne von seinem Leben vor dem Ausbruch der Apokalypse erzählt.Nach einem Schlagabtausch mit einem "Remis" zwischen den Seiten, sammeln beide ihre Kräfte für die in Band 20 unzweifelhaft folgende Endabrechnung. Dieses Mal stirbt zwar keine "wichtige" Figur (wobei ich bei verschiedenen Charakteren sowieso den Eindruck hatte, dass sie nur als "Kanonenfutter" verheizt wurden), aber die Fortsetzung wird sehr, sehr blutig werden.
