Great book for beginners
My father used to talk about his family tatting to earn extra money back in the 1940s and 50s. I decided I wanted to give it a try, and this book is helping me figure it out.

Hoped for better
It seems so easy to explain tatting but I cannot make head or tail of how to begin. The photos seem alright but without getting the starting point right there is no point

Unclear instructions - not great for beginners
I picked this up as a somewhat advanced beginner, but even though the patterns are simple, the instructions are hard to follow or make sense of. The beginning of the pattern, or "start here" is often not marked on the pictoral instructions. The written instructions often appear to lack vital information: "ds, P3/4in & join the end of it to the next stitch. Make another long picot and join its end as before. Create 5 double petals in this way [and finish it off]."Also not a fan of the intro where she talks about weaving in endings and states thar she ASSUMES you would have done that with the starting thread as well but doesn't really discuss how to do this. And WT actual F does she mean by assuming we knew to do that ESPECIALLY if this book was designed for the "complete beginner" as she states it was on the back cover.
