Head and shoulderws above mountain house chop up the big biscuits before adding water
Been off the grid for 9 years. I love biscuits and gravy. I always thought no one could compete with mountain house. That is until I really paid attention to the comparison between mountain house and the peak refuel freeze dried biscuits n gravy. First of all, I've eaten at least ten packs of each brand so I've become familiar with both. I'll start out by saying I would over all rate the peak refuel biscuits and gravy 8.5, and the mountain house 4.5. The reasons I would rate them this way are 1- The consistency of the peak product is less watery and more like I expect biscuits and gravy to be. A soft mixture of gravy and biscuits with pleasant little bits of sausage generously mixed in. Mountain house calls for about 50% more water per ounce of mix and after following their reconstitute directions exactly, Mountain house gave me a series of gelatinous blobs, surrounded by a thin white sauce. Peak wins there. 2- The cost per ounce of the mountain house product is approximately 50% more than the similar peak product on amazon. So peak Wins on that front. 3- The amount of sausage and the bite of the sausage in the peak product is noticeably better than the mountain house product. I'd say the peak product has twice as much sausage as the mountain house product, and the mountain house sausage is very rubbery and tastes old. I never did get any of it really chewed, I just kind of chomped down on it a couple of times and swallowed. To me, the peak product had twice as much sausage, and when you chew on it, it tastes and feels like sausage should taste. So peak wins big on the sausage front. 4- The biscuits- Ok, while neither of these "biscuits" were all that great, mountain house had more of a crouton type attempt at biscuits that just seemed to turn into a blob of mush while peak's attempt at biscuits were more firm, and often had slightly crunchy centers. Peak includes 2 actual freeze dried biscuits that they recommend you cut up to the size you want prior to preparing your meal. 5-The taste and spiciness- I needed to add roughly the same amount of salt to each company's product. Both have what I would consider the right amount of pepper in them. To me, the fact that peak refuel adds so much more sausage and that sausage has taste and is not rubbery, combined with the constancy of the peak gravy that completely coats each biscuit chunk make it the clear winner in the taste category. My overall thoughts on this mountain house product are that it seems to me that mountain house is trying to scrimp and save and add more water to give their product weight and as a result, their product is an obviously prepared by machine, watery white gruel with a few hard to find tasteless, rubbery chunks of sausage. Again, I believed mountain House was unbeatable in freeze dried meals, and maybe at one time they were, before black rock got involved in their board room... Right now theres no question in my mind, peak is the one to beat in this category.

best on the market!!
These meals are fantastic. Every one I've ever tried has been over the top. Our family does a lot of overnight hikes and some of us solo. Over the years we have done homemade, dehydrated, freeze dried, any and everything on the market. The meer fact that we have eaten these on weeknights for fun will tell you how good they actually are. Not "life boat rations" not "survival meals" but actual great tasting food. Yes these are pricey. But considering the fact that they do not taste like alpo dog food means I'm not complaining. Sturdy packaging, so far I have never had on bust in a pack. For the ones complaining of the crunchy biscuits and how they do not rehydrate... (it very clearly says on the bag that they recommend breaking the biscuits up into smaller pieces. actually it's listed as a pro tip.) take that for what it is people. the only actual complaint I have is that I wish the product line was bigger. biscuits and gravy, cobbler (both flavors) granola (strawberry and mountain berry), home style chicken and rice, beef stroganoff, and chicken Alfredo are our go to's!!! they have a few others that we don't really care for, but that's because of the flavor profile. we wouldn't really eat meals like that even if we were not camping. like the chicken coconut curry, or the butternut dal bhat. Nothing against peak refuel, just not really our thing. Buy a few, try them out. We haven't ever regretted using them

Delicious
Delicious. Biscuits were kind of hard however they softened up after awhile.

Peak Refuel, biscuits and gravy
Really great flavor and taste, the two biscuits don’t rehydrate, might want to take a hammer to the biscuits to break them up before adding water. Other than the biscuits there is plenty of meat and it’s kind of thick, might want to add a little more water than recommended if you want more of a liquid consistency. Would definitely buy again now that I know how to address the problem with the biscuits and the thicker consistency.

Tasty
Very tasty. Break up the biscuits before adding water, and we do just a little extra water so the biscuits fully soften. Very filling, but my partner noted he felt this meal dehydrated him a bit.

Big biscuits don't rehydrate and are rock hard.
The flavor was outstanding! However, they put 2 large biscuits in there that never rehydrate. They are so hard you can't even bite them. I had to throw them out. What is biscuits and gravy without the biscuits? The price for this meal is very high as well when you can't eat the biscuits and all you are eating is the sausage gravy.

Delicious!
Delicious! I am a huge biscuits and gravy fan so I was super excited to try this. We made this while camping and it did not disappoint. The biscuits were pretty hard, but I believe they have to be in order to preserve them. They still taste really good. Really easy to prepare, very good quality.

BEST Sausage & Gravy OUT THERE!
WOW! Holy COW that’s a LOT OF MEAT! That’s exactly what I said when I opened one of these for the first time after letting it steep for 10 minutes… My first mouthful was like”HOLY CRAP! That’s a LOTTA MEAT!”…… and it was a lot of meat all the way to the bottom of that bag! And the flavor? Absolutely amazing! Are they a little expensive well YES! VERY EXPENSIVE! But are they worth it?… ABSOLUTELY! The water you just can’t put a price on good taste! Lol And I would definitely break the biscuits in half and even quarters as those are some dry sons of guns lol
