Perspective

I have been listening to Shawn since I've been 19, and I'm now 67. I loved his album Second Contribution and when, years ago, I sold my 350+ album collection, I kept a few titles, one of which was his Second Contribution. I also loved other albums of his, such as Bright White and Transcendance. So, when I got this latest album of his, I was prepared for quite a different sound. And yes, it is not a rehash of older styles of his. He has moved on and developed his style in a number of different directions (folk rock, jazz influences, horns, etc.). However, esp. on Disc 1, I find his kind of rapping style not terribly attractive or poetic, more like a musical rant of sorts. I agree with the politics and his general take on society and the world today, but the musical forms that convey his ideas are less attractive to me. But Disc 2 is a different matter, same social justice concerns, but better music writing. I just like the way he sounds much better on the second disc of this 2-disc set. I am not unhappy I bought it. But it will probably not get alot of spins from me, except for disc 2 I still prefer to listen to his The Best of Shawn Phillips-The A&M Years...and Second Contribution, on vinyl.

I have been a fan of Shawn ever since his first recording. It has become near impossible to find anything by him in stores. Fortunately his work is available online. Wish and hope more people become aware of this vastly underrated incredible artist. Try him, you'll like it!

Excellent record sound quality is great everything you would expect from Shawn Phillips. He continues to put out a great product. His vocal range is as good as ever.

Un autre chef d'œuvre de cet artiste,trop rare et si doué.celui là est actuel,un tout petit peu en dessous de ses albums des 70's,incontournables (mon commentaire sur l'album "Transcendence").ecoutez le et vous chercherez à tous vous les procurer .en tout cas,c'est ce que je fais depuis ses débuts,et je suis triste de ne plus en trouver quelques uns,comme son tout premier des 60's.

Nur zu empfehlen. Ein ganz hervorragendes Alterswerk. 20 Stücke hoher Qualität ab 2002 unter anderem mit Peter Robinson und Paul Buckmeister.
