What are the dimensions of the plate? (I'm trying to get an idea of how much it will hold for children of different ages.)

Hi Richard,This plate measures 11 7/8" long x 8 3/8" wide and each of the spaces on the game board are a well for food. Each well is 1/2" deep. I hope this answers your question.

Does the dessert cover fit over the start area too?

No, not perfectly but it does somewhat cover the opening. There are ridges on the end spot to hold the top and not on the start spot, so the top is slightly slanted if placed on top of the hole.

Does the treat cover snap in place to keep kids from eating it first?

No, the lid just sits on top of the treat spot.
