My son wears shoe size 11. I bought size large in this sock. He says they are the best socks he has ever worn for work. Socks are long enough to clear the top of his work boots and they stay up well.

Are these over the calf or mid-calf?

The are mid-calf, but they are high enough for 9-inch military boots.
