A Necessary Piece of Humility for Muay Thai Training
Bought this because I am no longer 18 and my body no longer forgives mistakes. I train Muay Thai. If you know, you know. One lazy check or one mistimed knee and your entire existence comes into question. After enough near death experiences in the gym, I accepted reality and bought this. It does its job quietly and without drama. It stays where it is supposed to stay. It does not bunch, shift, or betray you when things get chaotic. I can kick, clinch, and move without constantly adjusting or thinking about it, which is exactly what you want from something protecting critical infrastructure. Comfortable enough to forget it is there. Supportive enough that when something goes wrong, it is not catastrophic. That balance matters. This is not optional gear if you train Muay Thai, MMA, or anything involving knees, shins, or bad timing. Buy it now or learn the hard way.

Post Vasectomy Winner
Okay, just in case you didn't pick it up from the title - this review is from a post-vasectomy perspective, not a sports perspective. Seriously, you want the support from an athletic supporter. Standard briefs or boxer briefs will not be enough. Fair warning, I'm going to use body part terminology below: While I already had a Franklin athletic supporter I had used for sports, I'm really glad I also bought this Shock Doctor to be able to swap out/wash the supporters with ease. The Shock Doctor won hands down on both comfort and frozen pea positioning. Fits as expected with good amount of elastic tension (not too much, not too little) and good, comfortable support whether empty or using the pea method below. A bit of digression: I've confirmed that the classic "frozen peas to keep down pain and swelling after a vasectomy" works well. The classic approach is to wrap a full 1-lb bag of frozen peas in something like a dish towel and apply. However, this typically requires frequent or constant use of one hand to keep it in place. I'd rather be able to type and play video games. I did use the whole bag method once, but the vast majority of my pea cooling was with the below method: Equipment: 1, 16 oz (1 lb, 454g) bag of loose frozen peas. 4 Ziploc style sandwich baggies. 1 athletic supporter (already worn for support). Procedure: Split the peas evenly between the 4 sandwich baggies and put 3 back into the freezer. Take the 4th and slide it into the cup pocket of the athletic supporter, adjusting for maximum scrotal contact. The layer of cloth was enough to prevent direct skin contact. If it's too cold for you, wrap the plastic bag in half a paper towel before slipping it into the cup pocket. By the time this quantity of peas mostly defrosts, you should probably take it out anyway. Be sure to spread out the peas in the bag to minimize clumping, and put the bag back in the freezer. YMMV depending on your freezer, but 4 sandwich bags was plenty for me - by the time I was ready to put the second one back in the freezer, the first had already refrozen. The Franklin supporter allowed for good top and mid-scrotal pea contact, but the Shock Doctor allowed me to wrap frozen peas all the way around the bottom of the scrotum - major plus. Even taking the pea positioning out of the equation, the Franklin just wasn't as comfortable for me - whether staying in place, or walking around.

Doesn’t come with cup. Good quality tho.
Doesn’t come with the cup. Very annoying - assumed it was a combo kind of thing. Other than that it seems high quality. Sizing is tight.

Secure AND comfortable
Bought these for my sons (age 13 and 8) for baseball and by far these are the best we’ve used. Initially we tried the boxer brief type shorts with pocket for the cup, and then the jock strap with cup built in (non-removable). The shorts with cup pockets are useless as the cup just floats around suspended in air in that general region and ends up hurting their thighs when running, or pinching their goods. The jock strap with non removable cup is okay, but wears out the fabric around the edges of the cup really quickly and the cup size is set based on the waist size. My 13 year old size men’s large son doesn’t need a men’s large cup... These jock straps stay in place extremely well and hold the cup right where it needs to be with no discomfort (my 8 year old has even slept in his...) and we love the pocket allowing for the cup to be moved from one strap to the next during busy weeks, and allowing us to choose the cup size. The waist bands are quite snug, so if you are between sizes you probably want to go with the size up. We have 4 of these and will definitely be back for more.

It works but not the best.
Fist off the fabric is soft and comfortable and that shape of the pouch (with or without the cup) fits very nicely. The waistband is durable with a good and comfortable fit. However, the back straps are not the best elastic. They are a bit loose and leave a bit to be desired as far as keeping the pouch tucked in and close for a better fit. If you use it with a cup it sits in place a little better but the elastic is still not quite what I was hoping for. Also, the seams for the back straps seem a bit weak so DO NOT PUT IN THE WASHER! Defiantly a hand wash only garment and do not put them in the dryer or they will shrink, melt or just fall apart. If you just need something to use for short training session or low stress activates then it should work just fine but I would not expect these to hold up to much stress.

Sizing is unclear to those of us that don't wear these, but otherwise good
My son says this fits good and stays in place while he is catching. My only issue is that it is not very clear on sizing, so just for those like me that didn't know what size to order: they are sized like pants. My son wears size 10/12 or YL pants, so I got a large and it was the correct size, so order the size pants your son wears.

This ad is extremely misleading. The "Shock Doctor Unisex-Adult Core Supporter with Cup PocketCore Supporter with Cup Pocket" does NOT actually come with a cup at all! Both the name and especially the pictures on this ad showing that it comes with a cup and even a chart that shows what size of cup it comes with are all very misleading and nowhere on the ad does it say that it does not come with a cup. It's also the same price as all of the other athletic support cups on Amazon that do come with a cup. The least the advertiser can do is specifically state that it does NOT come with a cup.

Super comfortable. Really happy with the cup version and this is similar. It is a pretty snug fit and not exactly as their sizing chart so consider buying the next size up
