Dog Anxiety Calming Wrap, X-Small, Cypress

I have an eight-month old toy poodle.She has a very calm, laid-back nature, until she has to ride in a car. Then she shakes, drools excessively, and sometimes vomits, even on very short rides. My vet prescribed an anti-nausea/anti-anxiety medication, and it did help with the vomiting. However, it had to be administered at least two hours before a car ride, and it was not inexpensive. I read a non-fiction book recently called Travels With Casey, about a man who takes a cross-country trip in an RV with his Lab. Casey freaked out during thunderstorms, which is really bad when on the road, so his owner bought him a "Thunder-shirt". First night on the road:thunder and lightning. With his shirt on, Casey didn't even flinch. I was impressed, so I looked up "Thunder-shirts" on Amazon. Actual Thunder-shirt was a bit pricey at $50+ for a six pound puppy, and I'll admit, I was still a bit skeptical about the whole concept. I found the "Mellow Shirt", and the very first reviewer said it calmed her dog to the point of no drooling, no shaking, and no vomiting! This item was also cheaper. After reading many reviews about the Mellow Shirt helping with anxiety about fireworks, separation, and car rides, I decided it was worth a try. When I received it, I let April wear it around the house for a while, because I did not want her to immediately associate it with the car. It fit her perfectly and she actually seemed to enjoy having it on. Ok, after a couple of hours, the test: a car ride of about four miles. My April was a different puppy; for the first time ever she sat up, looked around, even wagged her tail. No drooling, no vomiting, 0 anxiety!!! I have taken her on increasingly longer rides, all with the same result! This simple concept of a hug from a shirt is nothing short of a miracle in my opinion!

I am a vet tech and an animal welfare officer so have seen this type of shirt used in many cases. In comparison to the Thunder Shirt I rate this a 4 out of 5. This shirt is a lighter weight and doesn't cover as much of the dog as the thunder shirt does. That being said it works almost as well as the thunder shirt. It doesn't have a double belly velcro system like the thunder shirt. The thunder shirt gets secured on your dog and then you can tighten or loosen the second belly band as needed without the shirt coming completely undone. For most dogs this isn't an issue, just the ones that might be bouncing around or are nipping due to anxiety. I've used this type of shirt for relieving stress from car rides, vet visits fire works, distant gunfire and of course thunder storms. I have yet to not have the shirt work to some extent. Being lighter weight is advantageous in warmer climates and the over all effect is very close to a Thunder Shirt. I highly recommend this product.....and it comes in cool colors.

Our dog is a 28lb Boston Terrier/ Frenchie mix with a neck 16-17 inches and chest 24in with a length from neck to tail of about 15 inches. The large was suggested. It is too large, however I am not sure the medium would fit better. The overall fit is awkward. It is thin which will be cooler, but cheaply made. The Velcro along the torso did not attach well. Overall, I felt it was way too much money for the quality. Returning

My mother's dog has developed a serious fear of thunderstorms. She's never liked loud noises but now that she is 12, for some reason thunderstorms terrify her. Mom and I were talking about this new thing with her dog recently and it's bad enough that if the storm happens at night, Mom has to sit up with the dog and comfort her. The vet recommended my parents get a Thunder shirt for the dog to try and soothe her during the storms. I saw this calming wrap on here and decided to order it first to see if it works for their dog. The size is accurate to the measurements. Mom measured her dog and told me what to get and that's exactly what I bought. It is easy to get on and off and her dog seems to be comfortable in it. She's not rubbing against the floor or the furniture when wearing the shirt. It stays secure with velcro. The construction is nice, they did use high quality materials when they made this. I talk to Mom almost every day and after the first storm rolled in, I asked her how well this shirt worked. She said it helped. There have been a few thunderstorms since and from what I am being told, the dog is getting better with the anxiety (howling, panting, pacing, trying to get under furniture) behavior each time. It's a nightmare for my mother that is slowly but surely getting better with the use of this shirt. It's not an instant fix, at least with my mother's dog it wasn't, but our experience with their older dog is that it does help and the anxiety decreases each time she wears this wrap shirt during a thunderstorm.

I really wanted this to work, but when I received the product, it had the same weight as a summer tee shirt. It's a knit jersey, same as tee shirt material. And for something that provides no more comfort or support than a tee shirt with some velcro strips, I thought it was way too expensive. I wanted something that would add a sense of security to my dog's tummy, since when it thunders, she shakes uncontrollably. The item I thought I'd be getting needed to have more support and not simply coverage. Since it's thundering here now, which it does frequently here in Florida, the "lightening capital of the US," I tried one of my mother's back braces on my dog, who is 53 pounds. The back brace is a size large as well. My mother has a lot of significant back issues, so she has a lot of back braces. Only one works fairly well for her, but the rest don't, so she has a lot of them in her closet, and most of them are like new. I wrapped the elasticized brace, which is very thick, wide and stable, around my dog's mid section, and right away I noticed that she wasn't shivering, and that she seemed much more relaxed than I've ever seen her during a thunder storm. It was an easy on and off, and I didn't have to struggle with it. So if you're looking for something that actually works, you may want to consider ordering a back brace instead. :-)

Just received my order in the mail today and took it out of the packaging to try it on my pup, only to realize that it was absolutely covered in fur from another dog. I realize that exchanges and returns for sizing etc are allowed by the seller, however, to send out a product that has very clearly been re-packaged without care/concern of cleanliness is disheartening. I threw an old t-shirt over my Pup and tried on the product over it. It seems to fit ok, but will now need to wash to remove the fur that should've been removed by the seller prior to re-selling. Im hoping that it'll still fit after a wash cycle since I'll likely be unable to return/exchange at that point. The product itself seems to be made well enough with a thinner/breathable fabric that I was looking for (not 'mesh' as described in the product description- more of a thin cotton t-shirt type material). Thankfully my Pup doesn't seem to mind it much outside of the usual stiff-bodied "what did you do to me?" type response when it comes to new things on his body (he had the same response with his harness and he's acclimated to it just fine now). Overall: disappointed in the way the product arrived, sizing/fit is decent, material is ok, and pricing seems average/mostly fair for materials. Probably won't order again if we need to replace in the future.

This has really been a great product for my dog Zoey. She is a rescue, and has only been living with us since September. We had a really bad thunderstorm, and after that, any noise she heard that she didn't recognize would make her start to shake like crazy, and she wouldn't stop for hours. We tried holding her, comforting her, setting up a crate she could hide in, we bought a pheromone collar, and nothing worked. Finally we ordered this wrap, and we've been so happy! The first day or so I wasn't sure it was working, she was still shaking a bunch, but now she is almost completely back to her old self again. If she starts shaking we put the wrap on her, and within minutes she stops. We are so grateful!
