Works well with my Synology DS918+ NAS
Works like a charm. Pro: Obviously bigger storage and faster disks. Con: Yes it's a bit noisy. My previous disks were 4 x 4TB Western Digital Plus 5400RPM CMR. VERY quiet. These Ironwolfs are a bit noisier, but not all the time. Spinning / idle time I can't tell the difference. But when it's being hammered with the disk repair, Plex media centre, moving files around, etc.. Then it sounds a bit like an ol' rustic geiger counter. But it's not so much that it's a major distraction, especially if you keep it in the attic or closet. Again, it's expected to have a bit more noise considering the difference in performance, but IMO with 4 of them, I still say the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Works well with my Synology DS918+ NAS. The time it took to replace my 4x4TB WD Plus Red: Note my array was 99% full, so a Fast Repair in my case was irrelevant. Disk 1 - ~8hrs Disk 2 - ~8hrs Disk 3 - Step 1: ~8hrs. Step 2: ~26hrs Disk 4 - Step 1: ~8hrs. Step 2: ~26hrs In total, approx 84hrs. Reason for the above explained very well by u/Bentunit on reddit: ---- The way Synology's SHR RAID works when expanding is that it creates a new MD array. When you put in the first 10TB disk, you get no additional capacity (because you have no redundancy for the extra 4TB from the 1st 10TB disk). When you put in the second new disk, SHR creates a new MD, which puts the two 4 TB chunks of the two 10TB disks into a RAID 1. This is fast, so you probably didn’t notice it. You might've seen an extra 4TB of capacity (I didn't verify as I didn't want to waste time). When you put in your third disk, SHR now needs to convert your second MD from RAID 1 to RAID 5. This means a lot of recalculating and reorganization of data. This is the second parity check that you’re seeing. You’ll see the same thing when you put in your 4th 10TB disk. Note that SHR will not merge the two MD arrays back into one. However, this will have virtually no performance impact. ---- So expect ~4-5 days until you manage to swap all 4 disks and get it all fully synced and repaired.

Hard Disk per NAS di elevata capacità e silenziosità
Ho comprato 2 HD per l'utilizzo sul mio NAS di casa Synology, attirato dal modello molto conosciuto. Sono rimasto sorpreso per la poca quantità di rumore prodotta dalla rotazione, anche durante le operazioni più pesanti risultano sempre molto veloci e silenziosi.
