Solid package deal.
I'm sure if you're looking at this, you have more than likely already seen one or both of these movies. So, I won't go on and on about the acting and the stories and all that. The important things to know about this particular dual disc release is that they are both presented in wide-screen format. There are a few extras on the Hamburger Hill disc... but not on the Apocalypse Now: Redux disc. If you've only seen Apocalypse Now in it's original form, you will see an additional 49 minutes of footage on this, the Redux version. Some of that 49 minutes is spent on small bits of additional footage, extending scenes you are already familiar with... The bulk of the time, however, is spent on two fairly long and involved scenes, that honestly don't add much to the overall impact of the film. They are mildly interesting, but mostly seem to exist to add a bit more weirdness to the last half of the movie. I think the movie already did a fine job of building up that spiraling out of control feeling amongst the various cast members. The added scenes just add an unnecessary exclamation point to it. As stand alone pieces of film though, the added scenes are well done. Hamburger Hill is in it's original form with a handful of decent special features. Overall, it's a great package deal that smartly puts together two irresistible movies, for fans of Vietnam war era films.

2 good movies from the past!
I liked both of these movies for a long time. This dvd set has separate movies in this collection. No flaws, and the Apocalypse Now: Redux has the extra long version which I had never seen before. An additional 45 minutes. I think runtime was like 3 hrs 22 minutes for entire movie.

Two classic war films well worth the time to watch!
I'm a big war movie fan as my dad raised me on nightly 'bombers'. 'Apocalypse Now' is a classic in my opinion, and 'Hamburger Hill' is equally great. So if you want a good late night double-ringer of war films with lots of action and psychological twists, these two do nicely. They may not leave as indelible of an impression as 'Full Metal Jacket' by Kubrick with it's truly disturbing psycho-twist, but at least I can sleep without having nightmares after watching these two. Also, I graduated in the early 70's so the music in 'Apocalypse Now' brings back a lot of fond memories.

Great Bargain
These were two great period films about the Vietnam war. Although mostly fiction, they captured many experiences that war veterans lived through.

Two great films
Ideally, this would be the theatrical release of Apocalypse Now (not the Redux) but both Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece and Hamburger Hill carry powerful messages about the Vietnam War, U.S. foreign policy and American life in general. Each film is on a separate DVD (which I consider a pro) rather than both together on one 2-sided DVD. Highly recommend both of these films but the Redux of Apocalypse Now contains extra footage that hampers the pace of the film and detracts from the power of the movie, imho.

Excellent Purchase
The Redux version of Apocalypse Now is much better than the shorter theatrical version. The Redux version is simply the best war movie ever made.

Good movie.
Good movie. Wanted for my collection.

Overly lengthy version
The redux of the film is lengthy and certainly no better than the original version. I wish Amazon would make available the original version, which is absorbing in spite of its flaw of offering too much exposition at the start about Kurtz's having gone rogue.

A first time for one
This was the first time I had seen Apocalypse Now and it was great. Best for the War movies collection along side, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, and many more. thanks.

Great value
Arrived quickly. Can't beat the price for one film, never mind two. Good companion pieces to each other.
