Can I really put this directly in a campfire?

Yes. Every titanium piece can sit on coals, a grate or open flame. Titanium melts at 3,034 degrees F and a campfire runs around 1,100 degrees F. The metal conducts heat, so lift the cups by the handles with gloves or tongs.

Will it keep drinks hot or cold?

No. Every piece is single wall titanium by design. A vacuum insulated bottle can never touch a fire; this kit trades insulation for the ability to boil, cook and drink from the same vessel. It is a cook vessel first.

Does it leave a metallic taste?

No. Titanium is non-reactive and does not react with water, coffee or acidic drinks, so there is no metallic smell or taste even after long storage. There is no coating or liner between you and the metal.

Why does the new cap squeak, and how do I care for the kit?

New titanium threads are tight and squeak until worn in. Wet the cap and cycle it about 30 times, or rub a little beeswax on the threads. Wash with warm soapy water before first use. After that it is dishwasher safe and scratches are cosmetic.
