What kind of batteries are needed?

Thanks you reaching out! The toy uses 3 AAA Alkaline batteries.

Is mine defective? I have to reset the volume every time long mode place to get it to do long mode again. Will not work if I just press the foot.

How do I switch between the two modes? Pressing the foot is not changing the mode. It just plays a short tune and then stops.
