Essential for my home inspections business
Being able to set the sensitivity is essential. With low sensitivity setting, it can isolate a specific wire within 1/4" when there are many live "wires close together. Sometimes I need to test knob-and-tube wiring that's high up out of reach on the rafters, then I set sensitivity high and can detect voltage 3 ft away.

Great safety tool, but it's not a gauge.
This will not (at least as far as I can tell) give you readings about the amount of current flowing in a wire or if the wire is hot or return, but it will let you know if there is current in a wire. You can adjust the sensitivity, but it will register a USB cord that charging a phone, so it has no problem telling you that the switch or wall plug you're about to work on still has current going to it.I've been replacing a lot of switches and duplexes in my house with smart versions, and this kept me from getting shocked once when I found out that my assumption that two switches a few feet apart weren't on the same circuit. It's a good practice to always double-check before working with electricity, even if you're sure you flipped the right breaker. This is a good, inexpensive tool that will let you know if it's safe to continue.

Sensitivity wheel broke after very little use.
Was used just a few times when the sensitivity dial stopped working. The tester worked fine before that happened.

It works well unless the battery is exhausted
My only complaint is the soft touch on/off switch it gets pressed too easily by other tools in my electrical bag.
