There is one left or right side in a package. The left or right side is the armrest on your left or right side when you are sitting on the sofa. If you ordered the wrong product. You can contact Amazon customer service to apply for replacement. Our products are delivered by Amazon logistics.

Q: If a cat really goes at it, does the flap under the cushion hold it in place firmly? (I realize there is also a strap for the leg.)

With Velcro on the top and fixing straps on the bottom to fix the handle and bottom of the sofa, when cat really goes at it, it was also very firm.

Q: Could this work on the back corner of the couch instead of the front?

Even if you get the correct side (right or left) I don't think it would work on the corner back of the couch. These require a cushion to hold it in place. The ad says you can, but, I can't see how. Hope this helps

Q: Would this work for a reclining sofa?

It can be used if your reclining sofa has armrests and the armrest width is within 12 inches. Otherwise, you can only use this Cat Couch Protector on top of it.
