Is this MD possible to record by microphone?

It was a gift for my son at the time so I had to ask him. He said, yes, you can record. Connect the microphone to your minidisc recorder line in jack.

does this use the same discs as the old sony net md walkman mz-s1?

all mini disc's can be used in all players. of all ages & eras. some can be formated for more songs..but the discs are universal to all players...& re useable up to 1 million times.

Why are these still for sale? They were made obsolete by the iPod and Zune a generation ago.

If the only place I had a recording of my dearly departed's voice was on one of these things, I might be tempted to buy another one. Okay, even that answer feels contrived. But it does highlight why it was such a bad idea for the consumer in the first place.
