The Metabolism Miracle, Revised Edition: 3 Easy Steps to Regain Control of Your Weight . . . Permanently

Really works. Best diet book I've ever purchased!
This book is the best money I've ever spent - a life saver. I wanted to wait after the first 8-week phase to write a meaningful review, because I have been on low-carb diets before. I'm now in the first week of phase 2. Although I only lost 5 pounds during the first phase (coincidentally, the author projected this accurately for my age, sex, and current weight), I lost inches. 1/2 inch from my upper arms, 1 inch from my waist, and 2 inches from my thighs. Real fat loss, not water weight, while eating plenty. But this alone, does not make my 5 star rating. This book, in fact, is far more than a diet. It will change your life indefinitely, if you turn out to have metabolism B or are insulin resistant and are headed for diabetes, like I am.If you've ever been on a low calorie diet and/or spent hours on a treadmill only to see your weight remain the same or if you've ever gained 5 pounds over a weekend without eating 5 pounds worth of extra calories, you will benefit from this book. From her description and explanation, you may be one of the 50% of the population that has this metabolic syndrome and no calorie counting diet is ever going to work for you. And this is where the author breaks out of the low-carb diet pack. She explains the WHY very clearly and outlines a structured and easy plan to manage this condition, forever. This book is a revelation in the least. Just knowing why all those diets didn't work (and I've been on one since the age of 12) is worth the 5 stars. The first phase starts out to be difficult because it is a seriously low-carb diet. It is also for 8 weeks, considerably longer than the other "2 week" low-carb diets. It is a very long time to deprive yourself of carbs only to possibly end up over-gaining like the Atkins and South Beach diet, when the low-carb phase is over. But your mind and body change after the first week, then 4 weeks into this phase it's a piece of cake. By 8 weeks you have physically changed because that is how long the body needs to make a permanent change. More importantly, the phase 2 and phase 3 sets this author apart - she provides a detailed plan that no one else has to reintroduce carbs back into your life. She outlines a detailed, structured plan in phase 2 geared towards your metabolic syndrome while still burning fat. Phase 3 is a plan for life; an easy plan if you've followed her phases. She has even provided a plan for "falling off" the diet or planned deviations. The author is a registered dietician with metabolic B herself. She is also a certified diabetes specialist managing her own diabetes clinic with 30 years of data to ensure successful results. Menus, recipes, shopping lists of allowable foods, possible scenarios and FAQ's are provided for each phase. Nothing is left out. I can say with certainty that this is my last diet book.

Good plan
This eating plan seems like a reasonable way to eat healthy. I am still on the first step and have only lost a few pounds, but I like what I have seen so far. On the plus side - it is a relatively easy plan to follow and most of the recipes included in the book are easy to make and taste good. (Beware the cauliflower salad however - it is pretty bad!) I like its flexibility even though there are certain absolutes that must be followed - mostly severely limiting complex carbs and getting at least 30 additional minutes of exercise every day. I don't go hungry - which is a major plus! And I feel better - I have more energy. On the minus side - I have found it difficult to follow while away from home for several days and while participating in extended family activities that last over several days. (Although my zuchinni muffins were a particular hit over the July 4 holiday!) The only not positive thing I have to say about the book is that she says to be careful about what type of artifical sugar is used and she gives the brand of the one she recommends, but she doesn't say why she recommends this particular brand and what are the parameters to follow when choosing artifical sugar. I would like to know the science behind this statement. I do have enough confidence in this eating plan, however, that I have also ordered her cookbook based on this eating plan. I am in my early 60s and am having increasing difficulty maintaining a healthy weight as I age. I don't seem to loose weight on other diets that have worked for me in the past, even though I follow them carefully and she addresses this problem, so I am hopeful. Overall, this eating plan seems soundly based and a reasonable, life-long way to eat.

Buy the Cookbook
A friend (Praise the Lord!) was courageous enough to open her mouth and refer me to the book! It was the answer to my prayers. I had thought I was going to be stuck on the couch for the rest of my life with no energy to accomplish anything but the barest of activities. Working out, which is something I love to do, was but a dream for the past two and a half years. After ordering the book, studying and starting Step 1, within two weeks I was looking back and marveling at how my life had changed! No more carb cravings! Energy through the roof! Did you know there's a difference between being tired and being lethargic? In addition, I didn't have to clean out my kitchen of all the "bad" foods -- I simply don't want them. My husband is free to have whatever he wants in the house, without my complaining "I'm on a diet, why'd you buy X? You know I'll eat it all!" Ice cream has been in the freezer, and I just push it aside, without a thought, to get what I need. I've lost 20 pounds in two and a half months, have muscle and energy. People ask what I'm doing, what you have to buy or take. I say, "Buy a book and go grocery shopping!"However, the reason for the 3 star rating -- as wonderful as this book is -- it should be an updated edition. Buy the cookbook. The book was copyrighted in 2009, the cookbook in 2011. While the book is wonderful, she has changed a few things -- added melons to the Step 2 foods, instead of making you wait until Step 3! You get the same info on the plan, with some better explanation to it, while having more recipes. Recipes in the book are not duplicated into the cookbook, so as a secondary purchase the book is fine. This plan is the first time in my life I can look forward to never gaining the weight back, and if it starts to creep up, I know there's an answer and a solution to getting it back in line. It's also the first time weight loss doesn't seem like work. Yes, it will be maintenance, but that's true with any diet -- it you don't change the way you eat for the rest of your life you will regain the pounds. This is the first time I look forward into the future and can see a life of the maintenance not being "work". But, just LIVIN MY LIFE!

The Metabolism Miracle in the UK
This book is fantastic, as well as having some recipes, it explains how your body burns fat and teaches your body to metabolise in the most effective way. By following the Metabolism Miracle, you will NOT feel hungry, you WILL eat plentiful, you WILL lose weight, you WILL lower your cholesterol, your blood sugars will stabilise, your hormones will balance out (this is what sold it for me, after suffering with awful pms) and your blood pressure will normalise. You will also feel great, headaches are a thing of the past, I can get up in the mornings, I sleep like a log, the list here is endless! My hubby and I have only been following this plan for 6 weeks, my hubby has lost almost a stone and I have lost 10lbs. You do need to exercise :) I have been failing here, whoops. This is a change of diet that you will actually want to carry on with, unlike calorie counting and other plans where you feel like you are missing out... with MM you do not crave chocolates and sweets, breads or cakes.Diane Kress has her own website too and forum which is very cheap to join, the support you get from there is outstanding! If you feel you suffer with all of the above that I have mentioned, this plan will probably help you. Amazing!!!
