It has 2 version, one is whole set with stand and drum, another one is single drum kit. The review said no is because he selected the single drum. Please check the picture when you order it.

Is this a good snare drum to play in churches

It is a good model with 10 lugs to evenly stretch the head for precise and accurate tuning, with the speed-up drum key, the adjustment won't be tiring. It also has a "drum with stand" model for different playing modes.

Does the snare drum come with a snare release thing to turn the snare on and off?

The snare drum has snare strainer quick release and you could adjust it with your own screw driver.
