Good question. It helps now that pot is legal in almost every state and 100% in Canada !! I wish I could stand cold weather.

Is the cover removable as a tray?

Not removable. It goes all the way back, till horizontal with the rest of the scale.

It says it's pre-calibrated, is this true? Or will I need to buy the 500g weight?

It makes life easier to just buy the 500g weight at the same time.. I didnt and yet it came in perfect. Reads 5g every nickel everytime.
