Spring of the Stag God (Stag God Chronicles) Paperback – July 1, 2010

I purchased this book after seeing it review on Gay Comic Book Geek's video blog. What a great recommendation. The story is well written, the characters are well developed, and the action is hot and intense. My only complaint is that the book ended :)Extremely well written piece of gay erotica...very highly recommended!!!

The three parts of this book can be summed up with one word: Rape, rape, rape, rape. OK, one word four times...The sex scenes start more-or-less on every other page, and there's only one instance of consentual sex in the entire book.Granted, Ashlan's rape (and repeat performances) by his uncle in the first part is central to the mystical background of his charactor, but from then on was it really ALWAYS necessary? I think seduction, played out within the context of the fights that almost always precede the sex, would have made a more interesting character dynamic and been more fun to read. How about an opponant that eventually succumbs willingly in spite of his initial resistance, instead of merely being beaten down and taken? Now that would have been sexy!One must also grant that many of the characters raping or being raped are orcs, not humans, and they understandably have a different way of life. But as I neared the end of the book, and yet another forced encounter was about to begin, I found myself uttering aloud "Jeez, AGAIN?" And the humans aren't any better, morally, than the orcs, for the most part.The story suggests that, being a god of fertility (gay fertility?) and nature, the way Ashlan's encounters play out (whether he is subduing or being subued) are part of his being. But the constant rape becomes a bore. Wouldn't a fertility god seduce now and then, rather than always subdue his targets and force himself on them? As for the orcs, they seem only capable of rape, except for one precious scene; which immediately made me wonder why they were so one-dimensional about sex (i.e. take it by force) when it is suddenly made clear they don't HAVE to be.Fertility god or not, the author sadly falls into the usual gay erotica trap - everyone is hung like a clydesdale. If the story included an infant in it somewhere, I'm sure he would have been hung like a donkey. Penis size has nothing to do with true fertility, it's those other two things down there that more accurately represent virility. The gigantic hardware that every single character has is, to me, just another size queen bore.Enough ranting now. As for the story itself, it and the world the author creates are interesting. It's a fresh take on fantasy, with nature gods and their relationship with their subjects (orcs, primarily) given a new twist. And I have to admit, if I want to read a lot of sex, this is a great book for it and includes a few great drawings.I give this three stars because I really enjoyed the story between the sex scenes, it's a fresh approach to a fantasy/god world, and moves along quickly. I just wish the sex had been less one-dimensional, more a mix of force and willingness.

Kissing, rutting, breeding; these are the ways in which followers of the Stag God worship. And in J.C. Herneson’s Spring of the Stag God, there is no shortage of any of it. Made up of three interconnected short stories, the book’s plot is filled with a deep and rich history, not to mention almost non-stop erotic scenes.Right off the bat, it needs to be said that this book contains a large amount of non-consensual sex. I do not think the author is trying to make a statement about sexual violence one way or the other, but the writing is intended to be titillating, with even the men on the receiving end coming around to enjoy things. However, your mileage may vary when it comes to your interest in such things, and you may want to skip this one if that falls out of your comfort zone.Our main character, at least for most of the stories, is Ashlan, a young man who at the start of the story has been living with his uncle since the death of his mother. After a troublesome evening involving his uncle and a naked orc, Ashlan learns a few things about himself: namely that he is attracted to men, and also that he is the reincarnation of an orc tribe’s fabled Stag God. As the boy grows and comes into his own, so do his strength and powers.The first two parts of the book are spent watching Ashlan as he learns of and grows into his godhood, and the final part about his new but growing flock of followers. We meet a number of other characters along the way, including slaves, warriors, and hunters, orc and human. Of course, this being erotica, Ashlan ends up taking almost all of them as lovers, and the tender dialogue between these characters was some of my favorite.The story also has its fair share of action, with detailed fight scenes playing out across all three parts of the book. The author also clearly enjoyed developing the world of his story, filling the pages with beautifully detailed descriptions of the settings and people in them. The lore of the world is rich, with its own pantheon of deities, and I especially enjoyed reading the descriptive ways each of their followers would utilize their magic. While most of the story centered on the Stag God in the title, the bits and pieces I learned of the other gods in this world made me hunger for more.It is worth noting that at the moment, this book appears to be out of print; the only way I was only able to read it was via a friend loaning it to me. Still, if the review above has piqued your interest, it might be worth tracking down your own copy. Ashlan the Stag God is waiting to welcome you into his forest of earthly delights.

this book is one hell of a read. filled with a lot of sex mixed with drama and even a little heart.this is a great read it also help me in my own writing. LOVE IT!!!!

the artist is kinda stingy !

I probably fell a little on the generous side of things with this one because I've honestly never read anything like it. It's way past anywhere I've gone in terms of fantasy, as either a reader or writer.
