Will this rice cooker be damaged if less than 1 cup (specifically, 1/4 cup) of rice or quinoa is cooked in it?

Otherwise the switch may not stay down as it is not sensing enough grain and water in there. What is the difference between cooking with this one and the model that has buttons specifically for cooking (one for rice, one for quinoa etc..)?

This unit cooks based off the shift in weight as well as when you are cooking other contents other than rice you do have to keep an eye on the unit and switch it to warm once it is done cooking. Our digital rice cookers offer pre-programmed functions as the unit cooks based of the amount of steam being released based off its sensors. Can the steam tray be purchased separately? I want to buy the black version of this cooker, but also have the steam tray.

I'm not aware of the steam tray being for sale separately. I bought this unit specifically because it included a steam tray. (My old rice cooker died, so now I have two steam trays and lids and inner pots.)

Can somebody please explain the rice : water ratio? is it just a normal 1:2? please explain without using the lines of the inner pot as measuremenment

Regular rice is 2:1 water, rice. Sushi rice and short grain rice is usually rinsed and can be soaked first. In this case the water to rice ratio is equal.
