Q: Can these containers be used with produce that has alreadybeen washed?

The product instructions suggest that you do not wash your produce before placing inside the container, but to rinse off what you're going to use right before consuming.

Q: Has anyone used these for non-refrigerated veggies like tomatoes or onions. I'm trying to avoid the inevitable fruit flies, will these help stop them?

I use mine for organic cherry tomatoes which helps keep them crisper and fresher for longer. If I leave them on the counter they go bad too quickly. I would use a separate container for onions though since it might make all your food taste like onions if you mix vegetables in one container.

Q: Why are there so many comments not to wash produce and it doesn't say that anywhere on the box? Why the contradicting instructions?

They say not to wash before storing because the moisture from washing will cause your produce to spoil faster than if you just wait to wash prior to eating.
