44" Minka-Aire Review
I bought this fan/light combo almost 3 years ago and have been very happy with it. It still is very quiet and has very little friction (blades spin long after power is off), so I know it's not using very much electricity to run it. I have the 44" version for a smallish living room and it works great. In fact, I'm using it right now to push the heat from the heater off the ceiling. If you have a bigger room, I suggest the larger version (52", I think). The dimmer system if fairly simple and works well. The light is not extremely powerful, but it does kick out enough light for basic use. I would recommend at least one other light source. In my living room, it works really well with 4 ceiling cans. There are 3 fan settings, which are logical and all useful depending on what you're looking for. However, the best thing about this fan is that it hangs only 10" from the ceiling. I have regular 8' ceilings, and my very tall friend is in no danger of getting whacked, even on his toes. Not only is this functional, but it looks better, in my opinion. It's low profile, simple, and fairly elegant. It's not like so many fans that hang out in space like some giant contraption. Highly recommended.

but I love this Minka-Aire
I did way too much research on which fan to buy, and it came down to Minka_Aire or the similar Emerson. I think you can't go wrong with either, but I love this Minka-Aire. We have an 8 foot ceiling in our MBR and this leaves plenty of clearance. It is also quiet, and the remote it comes with is great. You have to cycle through the light settings to make it brighter or dimmer, but it only takes a couple of seconds. And it can reverse direction while on, in fact I think it has to be one to reverse directions, with the remote control instead of having to reach up for a switch. And it looks great. The blades are plastic but they still look good. The light is good enough for general medium-sized bedroom lighting, but you won't want to read by it. It is, though, much brighter than many Hunter and other models which use candelabra bulbs. This is a 100W halogen. And it was very easy to install, a big plus. I had bought a Hunter, which we returned for several reasons, and that Hunter was amazingly difficult to install.

Caveat Emptor! (Buyer Beware!)
I bought one of these and the unit failed completely within 5 months of its installation. I contacted Minka, who informed me that they would not honor their warranty because the unit was sold by Amazon. (They would, however, give me the repair part numbers so I could buy them. Nice of them, wasn't it?) Now Amazon tells me that they will not honor the warranty because it was sold more than 90 days ago! So I'm out the entire purchase price of this fan.... I find it incredible that Amazon offers goods knowing that the manufacturer will not honor his warranties. Amazon's business has to be built on the trust of customers who are buying products sight-unseen, and I believe their action here is a violation of that trust. I'll certainly not be buying anything associated with the Minka name, and having been burned once I'll have to be more careful before buying anything from Amazon that involves a guarantee of any kind.

Very smart purchase -- I'm happy!
After shopping around and extensively researching reviews for a flush mount fan, I'm so glad I chose this one. Most local retailers around here just don't carry this quality and design. Aesthetically, it's the perfect size and color for my decor. This is a beautiful addition to my small dining room. It runs so quietly and is high enough that it doesn't feel as though it's crowding the area with an 8' ceiling nor does it obstruct the view. Since I'd rather make the mess than clean it up, the smooth design makes it much easier to keep clean because there are hardly any nooks and crannies like so many others. Dusting is a breeze! Although it does come with a remote control, I opted to purchase the wall control separately. Who needs yet another remote? The only downside I've experienced is that the unit comes with a tiny halogen light which really isn't adequate for "task lighting" but is sufficient. It's more like mood lighting. Other light sources make up the difference. There are 2 bottom covers --solid and glass -- so it's possible to install it with or without the light. Generally I prefer to do things myself, but being a DIY female senior citizen and since the unit is so heavy, I wisely employed an electrician to install it so I can't comment on the quality of the installation instructions.

Nice Fan. Pricey, but incredibly easy to assemble and hang. Blade color (much lighter than fan base) cheapens fan look.
Fan is well constructed, moves a lot of air (even at the slowest barely moving speed you feel some air movement), and is very easy to mount. There are very few parts that require an assembly (3 and the blades actually), and the blades literally click into place once the base is mounted to the ceiling so you can barely count them; no screwdriver for them to be connected. This type of mounting makes hanging the unit much easier. Only the main plate that mounts to the ceiling and then attaching the main motor unit to it requires any work, and that's only two+ screws in the ceiling and four in the motor mount; actually 2 are loosened and the unit rotates into them and two to lock in place. Finally the light bulb and globe or cover screw into place in 20 seconds. Overall, very nice, quiet, and works as expected. HOWEVER, color of blades is not really accurate in the pictures provided; one problem of internet shopping. They look darker as if they match or are close to the base color. They DO NOT match at all. They really are "taupe" as mentioned in the fan's title line, and look like they are made of plastic or resin. This makes the fan look cheap; which it is not! Overall I like the fan and its operation, but at the price listed the blades should not look as cheap as they do and detract from the overall look of the fan. I've taken one start for that, because it's not clear until you unpackaged everything and it cheapens a nice fan. I may end up painting them just to get them closer to the base color. That'll be annoying but better than what it currently is.

nice fan - easy to install if you ignore instructions
We got really confused trying to install this because we were trying to follow the instructions to the letter. We finally figured out that the instructions included in ours must be old. I think in the past there was more the purchaser had to do with the wires, and now Minka is doing some of that work before it ships the fan but has not yet changed the instructions. As long as you keep that in mind (i.e. you do not have to follow EVERY step in the instructions) - this fan is super easy to install. It is VERY quiet. We run it ALL the time in the summer upstairs in our somewhat too hot bedroom. The air makes a quiet WHOOSH sound, of course, but there really isn't any sound generated by the fan itself - nice smooth turns. Our ceiling is crooked too (old house, plaster walls) - but this fan hangs just fine. Looks nice. We are not using the light portion of it so I can't comment on that.

Three Stars
Fan worked fine but arrived damaged in package so 3 stars is the best I can give it.

A cool hi-tech fan
Fan is really hi-tech looking and quite compact and very quiet. It is really easy installation compared to old school fans... The blades just "click" into place. very pleased with how it turned out for my tight rec room area. Complaints: Bulb is not as bright as I was hoping. Compliments: The glass dome was cracked and the manufacturer was really on the ball and sent one out to me right away. Remote is super simple with bigger buttons which is great during dark room watching movies, etc.
