Q: How do I get them to stay locked? They keep falling off of!

I’ve never had a problem with them coming off. I just make sure they are clicked in all of the way. I have these on two pair of pants

Q: Can anyone else not pull the back from the pin?

Pls watch the video to know how to separate the tack and base. 1. First pull the smallest circle piece below to loose. As in the video, stabilize the middle circle piece with your left hand, and pull the smallest circle piece with your right hand. 2. Q: Does the back rub against your skin? It does not look flat & looks like it would rub/poke your belly

I have not a problem with this at all. But my jeans fit me properly and I'm not overweight.. So that may be a factor if it does poke in your belly.

Q: do these work for loosening the waist as well, or would the zipper be too exposed?

That's going to depend on how far the original button is from the end tab of the waist. You may not be able to fit two buttons right next to each other on that space. The other thing is if you can and the zipper is too exposed, are you going to be wearing a shirt tucked in? I think the answer is "probably not" to your question.
