These stones are an excellent value. I've tested them out on various tools and blades and some carbide bits, and they've worked well across the board. They're very fine grit and definitely for honing and refining--these are not made for removing large amounts of material, so if that's what you're looking for keep looking. They also load (clog) pretty quickly, but given their fine grit that's not at all surprising. Using water or thin oil helps a lot, or (my preferred method) use them dry and use an eraser to clear them off (kneaded art erasers are best). The edges are not perfect, but they're fine unless you need jewelry precision, and the faces are very flat/uniform. Overall, strongly recommended.

I used the stones for finishing off cutting tools made from Silver steel(Drill rod) and also High Speed steel lathe bits. I had read that achieving a smooth honed cutting edge gives the best finish on the work. Using these stones helped me get that finish. The stones come in a well cushioned plastic case. They seem fairly robust but I handle them carefully.
