What is the difference betwwen SUV (43006) and regaular (43002) 3 ton Jack stands?

Height of lift. The 43006 (SUV) has a range of 14" - 20.68" and the 43002 has a range of 11.22" - 16.7". The extra 4 inches comes in mighty handy working on trucks and SUVs.

is it 3 tons per jack (6 tons total) or 3 tons total (1.5 tons per jack)?

After ASME PASE-2014 became effective in 2015, all jack stands must be rated per pair and not per individual stand. Therefore, a 3-ton rated jack stand has only a 1.5-ton maximum load individually. Therefore, make sure when buying jack stands, you get a pair with a weight rating higher than the vehicle you will be using them under. Also, even if a jack stand is individually stamped as “3-ton or 6-ton” it is still referring to its weight rating as a pair– confusing, to say the least.
