25Gbps speeds from your Synology NAS almost
This SFP28 E25G21-F2 25Gbps card is finicky about which cable it gets plugged into the ports to work at 25Gbps. You must purchase one of the cables from the Synology compatibility list. If the cables are not from the compatibility list, it will only work at 10Gbps. We used the OEM Mellanox DAC cables which worked flawlessly. Amazon.com so-called Mellanox SFP28 cables don't work at 25Gbps (we tried 4 different sets).A switch with SFP28 25Gbps ports will be required to operate at 25Gbps. Your Workstations will also need SFP28 25Gbps network cards plugged into pcie 3.0 or 4.0 ports x8 to benefit from the 25Gbps network speed now available to your Workstations.Your NAS will need the fastest NVME drives installed in the cache slots in order to saturate the network bandwidth. One clause tho, pcie 3.0 NVME cache drives don't fully saturate the 25Gbps network. The Samsung 980 pro gen 4 drives do better than the gen 3 drives by a slight amount read, but notably better with write speeds. Even the gen 4 drives don't fully saturate the 25Gbps network installed in the NAS pcie 3.0 cache slots. Only if Synology would have installed pcie 4.0 nvme cache ports into the current NAS systems.Also trunk porting the NAS does nothing for speed, just redundancy. Must be a Synology thing?Our file access speed has more than double from our old 10Gbps network, now that all these hiccups have been ironed out of the Synology card. The changeover to this Synology 25Gbps network could have been easier with more technical literature from Synology.Hope this lesson of trial and error helps others purchasing this card to upgrade their NAS.

Perfekte Kombination, aber saftiger Preis
Wer seine Synology NAS fit für das moderne Netzwerk machen will, kommt an diesem Adapter kaum vorbei. Ich nutze die Karte in meiner DiskStation, um sowohl die Netzwerkgeschwindigkeit als auch die Performance durch SSD-Caching zu steigern – und das alles über einen einzigen PCIe-Slot!Installation & Kompatibilität:Der Einbau war gewohnt einfach: Karte in den Slot, zwei NVMe SSDs einsetzen, zuschrauben und fertig. Die Karte wurde von DSM sofort erkannt, Treiberinstallationen oder langes Konfigurieren waren nicht nötig. Typisch Synology: Plug & Play in Perfektion.Performance (10 GbE):Der Sprung von 1 Gbit auf 10 Gbit ist phänomenal. Beim Verschieben von großen Videodateien und Backups erreiche ich nun endlich die Geschwindigkeiten, die meine Festplatten im RAID-Verbund hergeben. Das Arbeiten direkt auf dem NAS (z. B. Videoschnitt) ist jetzt ohne merkliche Verzögerung möglich.M.2 NVMe Cache:Dass man zusätzlich zum 10GbE-Port noch zwei M.2-Slots für NVMe-SSDs bekommt, ist der eigentliche Clou. In meiner NAS waren alle Einschübe bereits mit HDDs belegt. Durch den Adapter konnte ich den Schreib-/Lesecache nachrüsten, ohne wertvolle Laufwerksschächte zu opfern. Die Reaktionszeiten von Docker-Containern und der Weboberfläche haben sich spürbar verbessert.Positiv:Platzsparend: 10GbE und 2x M.2 Slots belegen nur einen PCIe-Steckplatz.Verarbeitung: Massiver Kühlkörper sorgt für niedrige Temperaturen der SSDs und des Netzwerkchips.Zukunftssicher: Macht das NAS bereit für moderne Switche und schnellen Datenfluss.Stabil: Bisher keinerlei Verbindungsabbrüche oder Performance-Einbrüche.Negativ:Der Preis ist (wie bei Original-Synology-Zubehör üblich) im oberen Segment, aber die Stabilität und die Garantie, dass alles perfekt harmoniert, ist mir diesen Aufpreis wert.Fazit:Für Power-User und alle, die ihr NAS im professionellen Umfeld oder für große Mediatheken nutzen, ist dieser Adapter ein Pflichtkauf. Er löst das Problem des limitierten Platzes im Gehäuse elegant und liefert genau die Performance, die man erwartet. Absolute Kaufempfehlung!

Work of art, even works great on my z490 Asus Strix motherboard with i9-10900K running Windows 10
I bought this and it didn't work in my particular Synology NAS model, so I thought hmm, let's try this in my Asus z490 Windows 10 PC. And I got very lucky.Here's a hint: with 2 cards, and 4 NVMe, I get 10,000MB/sSee the attached AS-SSD and CrystalDiskMark NVMe performance image.Without a driver, the 2 NVMe drive show up fine in Windows 10, but to get the Acquantia NIC chip to function you must use the following driver:Driver: Marvell Acquantia AQC107 driver (v2.1.21.0 in my case)Download: Go to Marvell, Support, Ethernet, Driver Download section and download the Win10 driver for part# AQC107Note: Marvell purchased Acquantia recentlyThe card has a PCIE 8-lane interface. The 10gbe NIC would use up 1 to 1.2 of those lanes, leaving 7 lanes or so for the 2 NVMe drives. I am not sure if they are using a PCIE switch to balance that out - which would be the most ideal way to do it. Either way, this is magic. With 2 of these E10M20-T1 cards, I finally have 2 10gbe NICs and 4 Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe sticks feeding the CPU via 16 PCIE Gen3.0 lanes (My Samsung 980 Pro NVMe runs off slow PCH lanes for my boot drive).Oh...I bet tis works fine in a supported Synology NAS as well. But do not think that it will work if it is not explicitly supported by your NAS model. Synology explicitly stops (perfect compatible) cards from add too much really cool functionality to their NAS units. And at least as of now Synology does not allow NVMe drives for storage, only for cache for SATA HDD and/or SATA SSD.The card is a work of art. I rarely see this level of quality even at the enterprise level.I am sure this works well in the compatible Synology NAS units - read the compatibility list and don't think it is just a suggestion.I can't say if this will work for you in a Windows 10 setup (know the risk) but I can tell you that it worked for me. The toughest part was figuring out what vendor Synology used for the NIC chip as the NVMe just worked. Once I found that is was Acquantia I had to figure out that Marvell recent purchased them. これが必要な製品はかなり限られるはずなので、購入対象となる人は大変少ない製品だと思いますが、必要な人にとっては大変ありがたい製品です。SSDキャッシュ自体が大容量のファイルを多数書き込む際に役に立つ形であり、ネットワークが 10G化しているのが前提なので、その意味でも大変ニッチな製品であるということでしょうか。でも、ネットワーク部分の速度はきっちり出ますし、SSDの方は全速力でなくとも用途において問題なしという感じです。これを入れる前と後で、一気に送信できるファイルのサイズがかなり変わりましたので、その意味では必須だったかと思います。ただ、DSMが7に変わってから書き込みSSDキャッシュが有効になる条件が変わったのか書き込み速度がガクンと減っていたので、フルに性能を発揮できていたのはそれまでの間だったのが少し悲しいところです。まぁ、そうは言っても大変満足していることに変わらず。とても良い製品です。
