Speck Products SeeThru Satin Case for MacBook Pro 15-Inch, Grape Purple (SPK-A1491)

UPDATE: After multiple airline adventures, and car trips, I am happy to report that the case has held up beautifully over the past 11 months. Also I have a job that sends me and my lap top into area that are frequently windy, dirty, and crowded. The case protects my shell from all that debris. I do follow Speck's recommendations of removing the case to wipe everything down so nothing gets trapped in there to scratch things up. My laptop usually remains cool, and rarely does the fan run for an extended period of time so I'm happy with the airflow. I don't know when or how it happened, but I have my suspicions and my sons are suspect... The bottom corner closest to the magsafe port has a small chip, but that is the only damage.... It looks almost like the day I bought it. I love Speck's durability. Looks great...Beautiful color. Love the feel of the satin finish, and I'm not worried that my MacBook Pro will be scratched up when I toss it in my bag. Super easy to install and fits perfectly. Only complaint came from my teenage son...He said that it made my MacBook much heavier. It certainly adds to the weight, but not enough to make me change my rating. Even though a soft case is lighter, I like the substantial protection of this hard case.

The product was shipped exceptionally fast to Singapore in 1 week and 2 days from placement of order,which was also 10 days earlier than the estimated shipping date! It was cheaper than store price too and I'm glad to have found it as I've been looking for a decent MacBook Pro 13" (without RD) case in Apple retails stores all over the island to no avail. (Don't know why I could only find 15" MacBook Pro ones for Speck,seems like a marketing strategy to discourage customers from buying the cheaper,non-RD MacBooks.) I'm impressed by the fast delivery and pleased by the ease of settling it on my MacBook Pro as well. It snaps on rather fluidly with a nice click. It covers and leaves parts uncovered where it's needed, unlike cheap third-party cases that has skimpy coverage and exposes the back's edges(although this way,your charger won't fully go in if it's plugged from behind). Even though it has a matte satin finishing which makes it rather translucent, the apple logo, LED sleep light and battery charge indicators are still visible. It gives the apple logo a fuzzy quality when it is lit because of the matte finish and the little air space in between(shan't go into detail with how light rays go through mediums of different density and bend). I LOVE the deep red colour. Rubber feet gives a stable feel and makes the light impact when my MacBook touches down on the table surface feel cushioned. The material definitely feels durable too and smooth to the touch. It also gives more grip as compared to shiny-surfaced plastic cases. Oily fingerprints, which are easily cleaned off, would definitely appear but in most cases minor touches won't leave a fingerprint. I don't see myself assiduously polishing away smudges or dirt like I did without a case. Only down factor was that the item was received with a few minor scratches on the top frosted matte surface; a minor flaw since it's supposed to be taking the knocks and scratches,not my MacBook (: If you are looking for light material, however, you might like to know that it lends some significant weight to your MacBook Pro with it's sturdy-feeling material. Just think of it as extra exercise when you carry around your laptop. One thing I question is why there's a little air space in between the top and my MacBook's surface. It makes my mac a little thicker(of course) and feels slightly cushiony; therefore, my guess is that it's to make it easier to remove the top portion or to cushion an impact from the top surface of your Mac by offsetting the pressure. It also ventilates the air pretty well. My MacBook doesn't feel so hot after some gaming and heavily used applications. Overall, this case was well-designed in aesthetics, function, and well-made with good material that feels strong and smooth to the touch. A quality product that is worth the money and leaves little left to be desired. Don't let your MacBook do without it.

Skeptical of precision engineered plastics, I hesitated more than twice before pulling the trigger on this pricey bit of mac-candy. I was in no way convinced that it would actually fit my MacBook 5,1. And, there was no comforting phrase to be found anywhere in the description to fully assure me that it would. But, I carry this MBP everywhere. And, it needed some protection... as well as some concealment of marks from previous scrapes on subways, coffee houses, and, just being dumped off the desk... once. OK! Twice. Rest assured. Those of you who have tenaciously clung to one of the last of the user-upgradeable macbooks... This hard cover doesn't "just" fit late '08 and '09 MBPs - It's like a custom-tailored suit. It clicks right on the top and bottom just like it should. I chose the red one, hoping that it wouldn't turn out to actually be pink-ish. And, I was not disappointed there either. It looks GREAT. The satin finish was the clincher. it's not some smarmy or slippery textured cover. It has a nice tactile feel to it and things don't stick to it like other covers I have tried in the past. for those who care, the lighted apple logo shows very nicely through the cover. Why only four stars? you ask... Answer #1: $40.93 However, no matter how well it works, looks, or feels - It is way overpriced for what it is... a computer condom. it seems that specialty accessory manufacturers realize that they too can collect their own "Apple tax". But, what choice do you have when you need to protect your MB? Answer #2: I am concerned about the design of the heat-venting mesh/perforations on the bottom piece. I wish they had put more thought into better/more heat dissipation. it is possible that the bottom cover may cause a bit of excessive heat retention. But, perhaps that's a personal paranoia. In summary: Pros: Looks Great. Tactile impression is very nice , Color is a deep red (mine) not pink-ish, Fits MBP 5,1 like a glove. Cons: Way too expensive for what it is and could possibly benefit from a little more perforations for heat dissipation. Additional note: L-shaped Magsafe connector will not seat completely when this cover is on (not enough clearance). you can turn it around, but, that will block the USB port next to the magsafe input. No problems with the T-shaped adapter though.

After four years, my last hard shell case (also green but different brand) was starting to chip and crack. I was hoping to find another green case similar to it with the same feel and of the same quality. The first one I purchased was unimpressive (different brand, didn't fit, wasn't even close to the color described) so I sent it back. Then I found this. It's going to sound stupid but I don't mind: I love this case. It's a perfect shade of emerald green and feels silky smooth. I have a 2009 13" Macbook Pro and it snaps right on - no fighting with corners or edges to get that plastic lip to clip on. Mine may have been a return because there were a few scuff marks on it but I love the color so much that I just don't care. And it's a case, it's going to get scuffed eventually. The case covers a fair amount of the edge of the Macbook, even both sides of the hinge. I like the round feet on the bottom, too. Not made of felt like some other designs. It's definitely pricier than the $12 version I returned but I'd rather pay more for good quality. Plus did I mention the green is gorgeous? Just checking.

Got this for my Macbook Pro. It is a beautiful case and color. It fits well and provides nice protection. This is actually my second case. I got clobbered by a bag carrying maniac at the airport. It sent my computer flying and cracked the case but the computer survived. It dislodged my disk drive but I had Apple care and they fixed it for free. I am sending mental death-rays out to the jerk in the airport but kudos to Speck products for making a great case.

Update: Okay. I ordered this product in the beginning of September and it is now broken. As much as I love the color and "durability" of the cover, I really can't do this anymore. I've had two Speck cases and they've all broken (initially in bits and pieces around the edge of the case). And according to the warranty, normal wear and tear isn't re-imbursible or grounds for a new case, and neither is damage caused by normal causes. My laptop hardly leaves my house, and when it does, it goes into my backpack, which I baby. So I do NOT understand why pieces keep falling off of this FIFTY dollar case. If you have a brand new Mac and want to protect it while you look for something dependable, this is the case for you. But plan on spending the amount you paid for that mac for the lifetime of your laptop just to cover it with this case. // I'm a student. I'm not made of money. Yet I wanted something that did a good job 'protecting' my Mac from the normal dings and wear. I've used cases similar to these only to find out it actually warped the edges of my old Mac (luckily I got it replaced). It clings on just right, and it's not too hard to pry off for the monthly cleaning. This case doesn't HURT me as well. The old cases I had would have a piece of plastic lining covering the edges of the laptop that would cut into my forearm and wrists at the slightest use. It was painful. This case, no problems. It's durable, a darker color than pictured in the image, which I wanted/expected. Unless you plan on dropping hundreds on those 'extreme' cases for laptop to protect your laptop from nuclear warfare, I think this case will do just fine. Just wish that warranty was easier to figure out.

I love these Speck cases. They seem to have the best fitment of all, but seem to lack in the quality of the clips. My last two cases made by speck all had broken clips on the bottom cover, within a year of use. This latest one, within 1-2 months of light use (rarely leaves the desk). Call it what you will, but I will be contacting Speck for warranty service. Because of this premature failure, I'm rating this down. Speck needs to do something about it. Unfortunately, these devices are no longer being produced (in this body style), so it's something that we'll have to deal with forever. Damn.

I got this after mistakenly thinking that buying a cheap laptop case wouldn't make a difference. My cheap case lasted the extent of my college Winter break and then started to break, starting at the edges. So I set off to find a better laptop case, and ended up buying Speck's red "satin" case. It's absolutely delightful to the touch and this is the only laptop case I've found that covers ALL the bottom edges of my MacBook. Usually other cases will not protect the back hinge-corners of the bottom of my laptop, which leaves them exposed to scratches and scuffs, dents, etc. I am so glad this one protects the entirety of my laptop! Also, MacBook Pros do NOT need ventilation holes on the bottom because the fan vents are located in the hinge of the laptop, and I was always annoyed with how all other laptop cases had extensive holes and slits in the bottom casing, which let in a lot more dirt and dust than I wanted between the case and the laptop - and that can cause scratches! This case here has a few slits, but very few and most of the bottom casing is solid (see pictures I uploaded). The apple logo still shines through nicely, a teensy bit fuzzy around the edges, but not much. Very nice matte look! I know that this case will definitely be the case I've always wanted for my laptop - it's perfect!! Thank you Speck for making such a quality MacBook case :)

Petite hésitation au départ pour ce type de protection, car les macbook sont magnifiques sans coque. Mais au final, une coque aux finitions parfaites, un touché agréable et un sentiment de sécurité. De plus les coloris sont très varié. Pas d'intérêt d'acheter à l'import, amazon est très bien placé. Une protection essentielle coûtant à peine 2% du prix du macbook.

Perfetta per il MacBook Pro da 13 pollici. Non ha problemi di surriscaldamento vista la griglia sul fondo della cover. Protegge dagli urti.

Si roza la pantalla con la parte de abajo de la funda devolvedla, no es la versión que anuncian. Este producto ha sido actualizado debido a ese fallo y Amazon pone las imágenes del producto nuevo aun vendiendo la versión anterior. Yo mismo he notificado ese fallo y dos veces me han dicho que no aunque GARANTIZO que están distribuyendo la carcasa antigua (mirad vosotros mismos la parte de abajo donde rota la pantalla de las imágenes y la vuestra) . Si tenéis ese problema devolvedla y reclamad, esto es publicidad engañosa y saben el problema.
