Is the Velcro around the whole mat or just where the litter exits?

There is no Velcro. No Velcro is needed.

will this work with pine litter pellets?

I wouldn’t think so. It’s for tiny pieces of clumping litter. I would think pine pellets are too large.

What is the thickness of this mat? A reviewer mentioned it's too thick for a door to pass over it.

Looks to be about 5/16" to 3/8" thick. My door will NOT pass over it. The litter box is aranged far enought away from the door that it can be opened
