It does what clay bar does, but unbelievably faster and with soooo much less frustration. I always hated how clay bars deform in your hand (and more so the harder you push). It would make my fingers really tired to keep pushing the clay bar, and it was a hassle to keep folding it. This pad is so big that I can just put my entire hand on it, apply very light pressure, and just swipe it around a few times to get the same results as may minutes of claying. I haven't needed to put it on my polisher yet because it's already really fast by hand.

This product has it's uses and I do believe it can work great for some general purpose clay barring. However, I had a car that had major overspray and this product was too weak to remove it effectively. I found that, when using a DA Long Throw Polisher at high speed and medium pressure, it was removing most of the overspray but left a bit behind that I had to come back with a clay bar anyways. Furthermore, the synthetic clay surface was deteriorating rather quickly and leaving its residue as I clayed the coarse overspray. Also, the reviews saying it blew up, came used looking, or scratched their car I found no similar issue with and seemed more than likely user error. I may use it again in the future for less major clay barring.
