Le Creuset Signature Phenolic Knob, Large

Perfect replacement for my Dutch oven lid knob that I dropped and broke.

A family member recently moved, and I was delighted that in the ruthless thinning down of her kitchen gear, she passed along to me a Le Creuset 5-Quart Oval French Oven that a quarter century earlier had been a wedding present, but that an entire generation of rushed clean-up by a busy family had left marred with multiple layers of well baked-on remnants from many years of wonderful meals. A quick bit of Googling about revealed that the Le Creuset site has a wonderful trick for dealing with this common enough phenomenon, and considering these units retail for close to $300 these days, I figure the hour or so I spent restoring it's original glory was well worth my time. Besides which, I had long coveted this particular smaller casserole better suited to meals for two to four. Unfortunately, however, I managed to crack the lid's original knob in my zeal to erase every last trace of oven-fired gunk. The good news is that while Le Creuset hasn't altered the design or quality of it's cast-iron cookware in living memory, they have found a new knob material better suited for withstanding many years of intense oven temperatures. The change-out took less than a minute, the new knob feels entirely secure, and now the "French" Oven looks so great, it has found a prominent place on the open-shelved side of my kitchen. Bravo! Le Creuset, not just for continuing to make quality products, but even more for making it easy enough to simply replace a broken knob rather than be strong-armed into re-purchasing a beloved pot. It's sad more manufacturers these days--electronics are the most egregious offenders--design for planned obsolescence than legacy compatibility. For myself, Le Creuset's policy makes me even more inclined to keep buying more of their products. (There's a wonderful Cast-Iron Braiser/Paella Pan . . . )

Let me use this review as a bit of a soap box. I LOVE Le Creuset casseroles. I own 6 of them- different sizes and colors. But WHY- WHY put a stainless steel knob on these mighty dutch ovens?! The stainless steel knobs conduct heat so well that you are unable to move the lid without a pot holder or towel. For some people this isn't an issue- but for my style of cooking- I usually don't have the time to be reaching for something else just to handle the lid of the pot I am using. I suspect its a way for Le Creuset to add a feeling of distinction between their factory and flagship store models- but a stainless steel handle on a pot that's conducting 200-450 F heat is just foolish. That's why whenever I buy a new pot, I immediately order one of these trusty black knobs. They handle stove top heat perfectly and look just as sharp as the stainless steel ones. I have never had an issue replacing the knob with one I've ordered. It's my personal preference and I think its far more practical than running the risk for burning my hand while picking up the lid.

My black lid knob somewhat melted in the oven and they don't carry replacements (!!) So i ordered from Le Creuset and the black phenolic knob fits perfectly! A bit pricey but it's very good quality!

I purchased this knob immediately after I got a Le Creuset dutch oven. The main and only reason - temperature limit. The one that comes with the oven is useless for anyone who bakes with it. I can't understand why Le Creuset doesn't use this knob is a default one. The highest I went was 450 F about 8-10 times and the knob was fine. Still looks like new after 2 years of heavy use. My advice, invest a little bit more money in it, so you can use your expensive dutch oven to the fullest :)

I dropped the lid of a Le Creuset saucepan and the knob broke. The saucepan is from the '80's and the lid has a recess, which I don't think is a feature on any of the current saucepans. The original knob was higher than the knob we ordered, but my husband added a couple of washers and used the old screw, so it worked. For any of you who find that this knob isn't high enough, try what my husband did to give you more room to grab the knob.

I purchased this to replace the knob of a 20+ year old Le Creuset pan that I broke. Am pleased with how it looks. It’s slightly bigger than the original one was (what isn’t super sized these days?!) but fit perfectly. Easy to install. Took me one minute. Am pleased that my le creuset pots and pans can be passed on from my mom to me and then to my children. Great quality cooking equipment.

I accidentally dropped the lid on my pot and immediately bought this to replace the knob that was broken. It fits perfect, actually I like this more than the original knob that came with the pot. It's a little bigger than my original knob so it is easier to grab, especially given the cast iron is heavy. Works perfectly.

Ich bin begeistert von diesem Phenolknopf für meinen Le Creuset-Topf! Der Knopf sieht nicht nur hochwertig aus, sondern fühlt sich auch extrem robust und langlebig an. Die Installation war kinderleicht, und der größere Durchmesser macht es viel bequemer, den Deckel zu greifen, selbst wenn man Ofenhandschuhe trägt. Ein tolles Upgrade, das die Handhabung erleichtert! Die Hitzebeständigkeit ist ebenfalls top – der Knopf bleibt stabil und sicher, selbst bei hohen Temperaturen im Ofen. Ich bin froh, dass ich diesen Ersatz gekauft habe. Klare Kaufempfehlung für alle Le Creuset-Fans!
