Great to Break Down Motorcycle Chains
I've used this at least 5 or 6 times since buying it and it works great, despite some of the reviews the quality of the product is just what you need to break down all manner of sized chains Takes minimal effort to remove a pin from a chain and at a great price too Re pinning is just as easy and you can be very precise with pinning it back in place Chain has held up perfectly ever since using this

Value for money, works as it should.
I have used this now a few times and it has worked perfectly every time. I am not sure why some people have had issues. It does exactly what it is designed for. Granted the instructions are not the best. But you can always search the web if you are not familiar with chain breaking. I likee the screw in handle to add more grip force on the main body, nice addition from most. I will continue to use this and don't foresee any issues it.

Don't buy
This tool isn't the best it's ment to be hardened tool steel but trying to rivet the chain took longer then it should of as every time you tried to mushroom the rivet the hole tool would bend by time I managed to rivet the chain the tool didn't line up no more as it had bent open the tool so it was made useless so returned it if I was to get another 1 id go for a known brand

Good price
Not great at splitting (but thats what the angle grinder is for), but as a riveter its a solid basic tool

Unexpectedly robust
Despite the mixed reviews, I found this to be substantial bit of kit. I have only used it on a 520 chain, which it handled easily, but with the different sized anvils and push pins I would be confident in tackling a heavier chain with it. The instructions only describe which parts to use for breaking and riveting but no great detail how to actually use them, and the press-plate is difficult to keep lined up over the link plate pins before they are pushed proud, so for that reason I only gave 4 stars for ease of use. The pins fit inside the larger threaded bar and seat onto a spring. They are then wound down with a smaller fine threaded insert. You need to position the breaker pin with only a millimetre or so protruding, and then wind the entire assembly down to contact the ground off link pin. You then wind down the smaller fine treaded bar to push the breaker pin through the link. Once the link pin is being pushed from the chain, the breaker pin follows it through and is kept straight by the chain. As long as you use the correct size breaker pin, don't have loads of it poking out before too start and grind off the link pin head, then you should have no trouble. The rivet tool is equally robust. I managed to split the hollow rivet wide open and break it by applying too much pressure. That was my fault and not the tool, but I mention this to demonstrate how surprisingly strong this is. The same kit is available from other sellers at varying higher prices, so if you need a chain breaker/riveter then you may as well get this one as its the lowest price you will find it for. All in all, this could only be improved with slightly more detailed instructions and perhaps a lock for the press plate to keep it lined up with the link plate pins as they push through. Two minor points, and certainly not enough to make me unhappy with this kit.

Worked, but broke
Bought this to remove/replace a 520 chain. One of the pins bent whilst trying to remove an old chains link. Had to use an angle grinder to cut the chain off. The pressing plates worked well but when using the rivet pin to flare the new link, the tension needed warped the tool and now won’t line up so is totally useless (and in the bin). Did the job but can’t be used again.

Works perfectly if you read the instructions and watch a few youtube videos.
Didn't hold out much hope for this as it's cheap and some bad reviews. Yes the steel isn't the best quality but if used correctly it should work perfectly well for home/diy use. If you try to push out a rivet without first grinding the head off you're asking for trouble straight away. Anything other than a bicycle chain needs the rivets grinding first. The plastic box it came in isn't fantastic either but the overall product and price make it worth it.
