How do you prevent this from getting stolen?

Each panel has a security cable securely attached, that slips inside the closed door to prevent easy theft. The cable is rubber-coated-wire with a 2" rubber ring on the end, to prevent it from being pulled out of a closed door. You would need a bolt cutter to easily steal them.

Are there any steps or precautions to take to avoid scratching my paint with after-market dent protectors? I think magnetic strips would hold best.

Easy on, easy off. You sort of peel it off. Holds firm, dosent slip which would scratch. Just make sure there is no dirt on the car (which would probably scratch the paint, and be sure no small pieces of metal or paper clips have stuck to the magnets prior to putting on car. That being said, they are great and my 2015 bmw x5 paint remains pristine.

Can you use these while driving?

Not intended to be used while driving especially at high speeds, but people still occasionally do this even if accidentally and forgot the panel is on the car. I've seen these panels on the side of Postal workers vehicles when driving from box to box to avoid scrapes to their car. The panels hold well onto a car's flat surface but I wouldn't drive much with them on my car.

Why they cost $98? It seems overpriced

I bought them a while ago and had to return them cause they did not stick to my car I have a BMW
