This thing is Great!!!! It helps prolong the life of your hot water heater. The stock one that comes on your tanks take forever to drain. This one take only about 15 mins to drain a 50 gallon tank. It also helps get alot of the sediment out.

I occasionally open the drain valve on my water heater to discharge sediment (or because I want warm water for some reason). After one of these instances, my original drain valve wouldn't stop leaking. Also, it required a screwdriver to open and close, which was inconvenient. This was a far superior replacement. Opens and closes with a handle like God intended. Didn't leak. And has a wide internal opening that let gunk out that has never come out before. The only trick is that I was afraid it was going to collide with a drain pipe coming down from the pressure release valve during installation. Luckily, I was able to easily remove the pipe, then easily install the valve, then replace the drain pipe. So as long as you have room for it, I highly recommend it.

Excellent drain valve. So much bigger than the plastic junk that was in my Rheem tank. Drain the tank, remove old one, add Teflon tape and or pipe dope and screw this one in. Easy to do and now when I flush the tank it gets much more sediment out and flushes quickly. This is an all in one kit. Comes with everything you need to get it done. High quality.

These are a must have if you maintain your water heater, I don’t know why water heaters don’t come like this in the first place

Very well made, no leaks, easy to install (once the plastic OEM valve was removed, which was quite difficult). Has larger diameter than the OEM valve so the water heater will drain faster.

It’s a good product and works well. My only issue is the main stem doesn’t have a way to get a wrench on it so if you ever want to take it off it will be tricky.

The drain valve on our oil fired water heater, only has a very small opening , when it's fully open, and there is no way it could drain out larger amounts of sediment in the tank , and really is totally useless in properly draining the tank of any debris inside. This thing is what the doctor ordered, as when its fully open , there is actually a 3/4 inch opening , which would allow for most debris and sediment to be easily removed from the tank, and in doing so, prolonging the tanks life. Follow the instructions to properly put it together and install it , using proper teflon tape and also pipe sealer on top of that .. Once its properly assembled and installed on the tank, it works better than the OEM supplied one. Highly recommend this if you want to extend the life of your hot water tank.

Picture included is only half of the build up removed after installing the valve. This is after I had already flushed twice with the old drain valve. My 6 year old gas water heater has been having problems since around 3 years old. I started doing 1 or 2 flushes a year because of build up. The calcium build up was crazy. It would make my water heater throw a "replace burner" error. Well this winter it was doing it even more. Wife was tired of cold showers and demanded I fix it or replace it. Replacing a water heater at 6 years is crazy to me. The burner checked out and didn't look bad at all. All the sensors were working too. I flushed it twice in January, but felt like there is no way I am getting all the build up. I bought this valve and installed it. The hardest part is just removing the old one. One more flush to see if this would get me anywhere. I ended up removing almost 2 cups worth of calcium build up! I'll probably end up doing another flush when I change the anode rod next, but this fixed my issue so far. $40 instead of a new water heater. Big bargain if you ask me. You can build something similar at the local big box store but I love the fit and finish of this one. I am going to buy another for my parents house.-

Do it. I replaced a 17 year old drain valve with this. The flow increases tremendously, especially since its a straight exit. and huge sediment flakes could be seen exiting. After vacuuming 17 years of sediment, I have full confidence this valve will keep it clean for a now yearly flush!

Fits my 60 gallon GSW perfectly and it does what I needed it to do :)
