Recommended adapter to use with standard tripod quick release?

It does work. This is ARCA Swiss. Certain tripods use proprietary dimensions for their quick release. They are NOT cross compatible. What length do you need? I needed the particular features of this one?

I've heard of but am not familiar with the arca swiss standard. what do i need to mount camera to the rail nodal slide?

you just need an arca swiss rail mounted to the bottom tripod screw of your camera. They also com in an "L" shape so that you can quickly switch between portrait and landscape without having to move the tripod head. If you get an L shape one though, make sure it'll fit the camera( measure camera tripod mount hole to left end of camera.I have 2, they fit my Pentax K-20 & K-5, but not my K-3, as pentax moved the tripod hole further right.
