Would this hold a small shelf board with small items on top?

I don't think it will hold a shelf since it is only 5", but it would hold a small item.Thank you

CAn these be used in a fireplace, near a wood burning insert?

I would say no, they are not solid wood, made of a sort of foam.

Is this h3 treated timber that can go outside

This product is made out of a material called "polyurethane" which is great for outdoor use and does not require H3 treating.
