These augers are brilliant. Perfect for drilling holes in studs and joists for routing wiring and plumbing. These auger bits are fast. True as one reviewer pointed out, if you hit a nail, it will blunt the cutting tip, but the bits only cost $5 apiece. These Speedbors are much faster, much easier to use and less user effort than spade bits. Highly recommended, I just ordered my second set after boring hundreds of holes for Romex (NMD). A tip, you can bore the initial hole with a smaller bit, and then switch to a larger bit for a bigger hole.

When drilling with one-inch bits or slightly larger ones, you need to drill in short, jerky strokes and make a pilot hole so that the threaded bit doesn’t seize up; otherwise, the drill will jam or you’ll strain your wrist, especially if you press the drill down too hard – you practically have to let the bit advance on its own. They’re excellent because they cut very quickly and cause virtually no splintering of the wood.
