Is this a hinged lid, or a pull-off box top?

The lid is on a hinge., and can be flipped up and down to open and close the box.

Are instructions supplied to put it back in the box?

I had this sent as a gift. However, I have had an older version of this tangram set for several years and it has a diagram for replacing the pieces in the box. I think it is safe to assume this still is true. It is a really challenging and fun game.
