AR-15 Rifle Builder's Manual: An Illustrated, Step-by-Step Guide to Assembling the AR-15 Rifle

This is the perfect guide for me, being new to tinkering with this model. It offered everything that I needed to know without making it sound overly complicated. Though I have also used video instructions, generally I still tend to prefer instructions in book format; easier to stop at any point while working, or flip back and forth, if I need to. Plus, I avoid getting gunk on my electronic devices while doing messy stuff. 😊 What I liked. The format organization: it starts with a fully assembled view with terms; next, component groups, assembly steps, then function tests. Assembly steps are clear; easy to understand and follow. Information about how components work is useful and concise, not distracting or overwhelming; everything I needed to feel confident of doing a proper job. That made it satisfying and fun. Photographs are excellent, clearly depicting what I needed to see. The tips offered helped me avoid frustrating rookie mistakes or accidental damage. I DID have this guide spiral bound so that it lies flat. (There is plenty of space on the inner margin without marring the text or photos and I would definitely recommend it.) I also have this guide on my ereader. I like that too, but some of the page breaks separated the text from the photos that they described. A little awkward but not a deal-breaker. And that may have just been on my reader. Just so you know and can choose what you like best. Though the more experienced may find it too basic, I highly recommend it to new tinkerers. I definitely plan to keep it around as a great reference.

Every how-to manual needs to be written in the style of this book. It is perfect. It's about 70 pages in length with approximately 6 detailed, clear, and color photos per page. Underneath each photo is a step written in plain English which is usually one sentence in length. "Insert spring here. While holding spring, insert pin there." Perfect execution of the KISS principle. I've never bought, owned, or even held an ar15 before in my life. With the help of this book, I built my first ar15 on the kitchen table and it functions almost flawlessly [it's under-gassed but that's not the book's fault. It's either faulty parts or my alignment skills]. If I had one gripe, it's that there should be a total tool list at the very beginning instead of a tool list for each section. But now that you've read this review, you can scan ahead and get all the tools ready. Also, you will need to know when to deviate from the book and go on YouTube. This book covers the traditional M16 'Nam-style rifle with polymer hand-guard and and fixed front sight attached to the barrel with the rear handle-sight so any deviation from that will require independent research. This should be a NY Times Best Seller. Read it to your kids before bedtime.

An A-Z guide for anyone interested in 3d printing and airsoft lol. A very very detailed book with amazingly detailed yet easy to follow pictures. This is a must have.

A lot of the pictures shown in the customer reviews show that this manual has a spiral binding. Not So! Pages are attached to the binding with an adhesive. It's a good reference book and would be a great must have for an AR15 owner.

This is an outstanding book for the AR builder. I had already owned the Kindle edition and referred to it heavily, even using it to check myself on every build to be sure I hadn't missed either a step or a safety check at each stage. I've got the B&W Kindle.... So I bought this as a backup. Wow. Bye bye Kindle edition... excellent color photos at every step, big and clear and excellently selected to show every step clearly. Every section follows a logical progression, starting with a listing of parts of the subassembly with photos showing every item, followed by step by step instructions for assembly in the proper order, and pauses at the appropriate points for descriptions of function or appropriate function/safety checks. As an example, as you prepare to install the triggerand hanmer assembly, the instructions pause to give you a detailed description, with pictures of how an AR trigger functions. Then as you assemble it, it gives you a function check at every stage. I can competently build an AR without this book. But it's on my bench for EVERY build I undertake. Very well done.

I bought this for the event that computers are down, I have a way to see how to fix my AR. I have plenty of extra accessories in case parts break and know how to fix most things, but I wanted to have a book like this as a refresher or to show me the few things I don’t know. I worry about the world nowadays and having my AR is only helpful if it’s working and loaded, and this book will help me keep it working as long as I have the supplies! It is so detailed, even a novice could follow along!

This book is great, well worth the money. Yes, there are countless vids online about how to do this, and they are useful, but this book is a wonderful aid to fill in the gaps. The clear, color photos are very well done and clearly show the parts, how they are installed, and what everything should look like when they're in. I like how each group is broken down--very helpful in sorting a bag full of parts. Also shown is the tools needed for each process, as well as a troubleshooting guide and other useful information. At the end of the day, here is an inexpensive, clear, concise guide to assembling from parts an AR. Recommended.

Just a good all around book to have on hand. All the information you need to clean, assemble / disassemble, changes parts, etc. Full color with photos and step-by-step guides, easy to read and easy to follow. To be honest, I use the internet to answer most quicks questions and assist with builds, but this book is great reference to keep in the "prep library". It sits on a shelf with all of my small engine, mechanical, first aid, hunting / gathering, atlases, etc–some handy knowledge if services ever go down type books.

Great reference. Not only if you want to build-up your own, but also to better understand the “anatomy” of your AR. Gives clear instructions how to get the job done, for example a trigger group replacement, supported by lots of detailed pictures and a list of required tools. Serves as a great reference, frequently consulted, before I start working on my gun.
