can you take some of the sand out? as i would like to use this in a time out chair for a little one and 30 minutes is to long for a little one

No you can't remove any sand, it's not like a piggy bank with the stopper in it. This is a lovely piece but, it is fragile and I would not put it near a small child, the glass could easily break. How about a plastic egg timer with the sand in it??
