This is what did help my Mary... I had to replace them often... you have to use  care when putting them on and taking them off as to not damage the pads and may need a balm due to these but they allowed Mary to have traction and be able to walk and stand up. There are different sizes and many brands. This brand I found about the best. Is this product easy to wash off once you return home from your walk.  I don't want it getting on my floors or carpeting.  Thank you!

You cannot wash it off easily because there is so much wax in it, but you can blot off with a tissue as soon as you apply it. Then feel to be sure there isn't a blob of it between the toes. It wears off a lot by the end of a 15-20 minute walk. You might want to wipe with a damp paper towl when you come in, as the mud and salt still stick to the paws--they just don't hurt the dog's skin.

Do dogs try to lick it off; that's what mine would do I'm afraid, no?

Neither of my dogs try to lick it off.  One is a lab, the other a labradoodle.  It's been so cold here in Maine that we've started using "Hott Doggers- Boots for Dogs."  They're great in snow and on salty sidewalks.  I strap them on tightly and rarely have a problem.  My dogs don't lift their paws like they used to when it is very cold out.  Highly recommend.
