i've been eyeing Paula's Choice BHA products for months now and could never justify spending $20+ on a toner/acne treatment, even if my skin was acting up as much as it has been. i took the plunge a few days ago and ordered this extra strength BHA treatment to help combat my moderate comedonal acne (mostly nasty whiteheads covering my jawline ): ) that even the best makeup couldn't hide. i received this product saturday evening and immediately cleansed my skin and applied, it felt a little greasy, but i read that this feeling is just due to the helpful penetrating ingredients, so i wasn't worried. it almost instantly started to reduce redness of my existing enflamed acne and scars, and the next morning i noticed a few less comedones and that my pores were a bit smaller/clearer. each time i've used it, my skin had gotten better, and it has not yet dried out my skin, even with twice daily use. in fact, my skin feels hydrated and not tight at all after i use this. this morning was the 6th time i've used this since receiving it, and i noticed something seriously amazing (and maybe a little gross) -- after cleansing, as i wiped this BHA across my skin with a cotton round, comedones started popping out of my pores and clinging to my cotton! i've never seen this with any toner or treatment i've used in the past. i almost cried. i have been so sensitive about my skin over the last few years, being a college student and nearly full-time server. i see so many people daily, and it's really been a struggle trying to keep my skin under control, that is, until now. i will caution you though, that this has brought a few breakouts to the surface of my skin, but is working to clear them quickly while reducing redness, itchiness, and soreness of both the new breakouts and every one of my existing breakouts. if you're iffy about the price of the PC products, i say don't be -- they are completely, 100% worth it.

This is one of the best exfoliants I’ve ever used! I struggle with breakouts and redness, and this product has made such a noticeable difference. The 2% BHA helps keep my pores clear and smooth without being harsh or irritating. It feels lightweight, almost like water, and sinks right into the skin without leaving any sticky residue. I use it a few times a week, and it keeps my skin clearer, calmer, and with less redness. My breakouts heal faster and new ones don’t pop up as often. It’s gentle enough for daily use if needed, and I love that it doesn’t dry out my skin. Definitely a must-have in my skincare routine!

If you're a girl sick of having clogged, acne-constant, oily skin and you feel like you've tried every product on the market and you feel like you're doing everything right but your skin still looks horrible... Get. This. Product. Worth every penny. Oh, and results are fast. Know that lathering your face in it will hurt your skin barrier and freak your skin out, so dont do that. But I use this morning and night right after cleansing. I use just a few drops on a cotton pad and swipe it across my acne problem areas. Clears up breakouts like nothing else and my skin is glowy for the first time in my life. I never realized how much of my skin troubles were based on a texture, not just acne, until I started using this product! Clogged pores got nothing on me now that I've got this!

I wanted to incorporate a salicylic acid exfoliant into my routine without adding anything that might break me out, so I chose this one based on good reviews and a lack of comedogenic ingredients. I have adult acne which is usually just blackheads and whiteheads on my forehead and jaw/chin, but recently the whiteheads had been turning into papules/pustules too often for my liking, and I was seeing a lot of blackheads & whiteheads on my cheeks. I chose this one over the extra strength, because my skin is sensitive. The texture is literally like water, and it caused zero irritation over the 2 months I used it daily. I used it to remove makeup (just mineral foundation and cream concealer) with a cotton ball 5 days a week, and also applied a layer with my fingers every night after washing my face and before moisturizing. It doesn't add any moisture to your skin, so you'll want to moisturize after to avoid dryness. I saw quick results (like, the next morning) in calming down existing pimples and softening my skin, and over time, I did see reduced blackheads and whiteheads, but not as many as I'd like. So, I bought the extra strength, and am seeing much stronger results with zero irritation. I really like that the extra strength is thicker and more moisturizing in addition to working faster, so I'll be using that at night from now on; however, I plan to repurchase this and keep using it to remove my foundation and concealer.

Hands down the best treatment for ACNE. I have bad cystic acne during my cycle, and it would take me weeks for it to go away. I started using this back in November 2025 and gradually introduced it to my skin. I still use it every other day to avoid stressing my skin. I do it on Mondays and Wednesdays and Saturdays. I am glad to say that my skin is looking so much better! I don’t get cystic anymore, just a few pimples here and there but nothing that cannot be managed. My black bottle is finished, and I went with the “Clear Extra Strength” as it has the same ingredients and is FSA eligible this year! I would highly recommend anyone struggling with Acne. Make sure you introduce this gradually and moisturize well. WIN for my skin!
