You get what you pay for
I have always used procion dyes and normally I get them from dharma. However when I seen the much lower price on Amazon I immediately placed an order. When I first used this dye everything seemed normal. I mixed it like I always have, soaked my shirts in soda ash a d let the dye batch for 48 hours. When I did my rinse out I was shocked to see a lot of the color being washed away. I thought it was a fluke and tried several more times with almost double the amount of powder I would normally use and still didn't get my usual rich, deep black color to stay. I m left with the conclusion that it wasn't the dye it was labeled as.

Not the pure black i need. Rinsed right out.
I used soda ash on my sheets before dye day. I mixed urea in the water before the dye. I used 4 times the amount of dye needed and soaked my sheets over night... i got lavender sheets. Its bamboo rayon and i have dyed bamboo socks and shirts before, i have dyed rayon before, both with this brand of dye... but this time it rinsed right out. The dye also washed off my skin pretty quickly so im gonna say its the dye. Before when i had the black dye the powder pigment was almost a red color, not actually black. I was concerned when i opened it that it wasnt gonna be the same as i was accustomed and it was not.

Must use a lot to get a nice color depth
This was convenient but needed extra work via soda ash and/or vinegar for natural fibers. It results in a blue tint. Not as good as the tulip brand black dye but for the price it's totally worth it for random projects. My artist friend used this with natural cotton fiber to "watercolor" beautiful paintings on t shirts. I recommend having sturdy plastic buckets and a clothing wringer if possible.

Dye doesn’t take well probably expired
I hate to leave a bad review but this dye was a total waste of money. I have been doing professional tie dye for 3 years and thought I’d try this dye out because it shipped faster than what I normally buy. However that was a mistake on my part. This dye doesn’t come out black even when using 5 times as much as it calls for. It just comes out as a washed out blue gray color. It seems like this dye is old/expired. I’m sad I wasted my money on it so do not buy unless you want washed out colors.

if you want black, this is it
But . . . follow the instructions, except . . . use twice as much dye and soda, and if doing levis (denim) use even more and don't pre-wet. And be prepared to do the whole thing twice. There is no magic "easy way" to get really black . . . this stuff if as close as it gets . . .
